I'll have the same dilemma when I eventually move. The first thing that I will be doing is buying some large, neutral coloured rugs, probably jute or sisal (or similar), to help juxtapose the light timber floors with the dark timber furniture. I think having a "break" between the two timber styles/colours is a good idea. I'll personally be aiming for some kind of combined Japanese and Scandinavian interior design. new house with a blank canvas of primarily white walls, black frame doors/windows & blonde timber (oak) floors so would like to stick to this palette for the big items (though will introduce pops of colour with smaller decor items)... going for a scandi inspired contemporary look... and kitchen next to open plan dining is black, white & grey, haven't bought stools yet but will probably get timber ones

Hi anzella, loving the new table and chairs, because you live in North QLD I wouldn't worry about a rug under the table, apart from you climate I find rugs under tables can become very annoying . If however you do decide to have one down the track, Sisal Rugs are great for your climate, you can even make your own to whatever size by buying the sisal and edging it yourself or getting a carpet place to overlock the edges. What size room do you have? Are you after a standard six seater or a smaller 8 seater dining table and chairs? What state of Australia are you in, this helps instead of sending you to a shop in Queensland and your in Perth? When you mean hamptons, do you want white or timber or cane chairs?
