Comments (37)Hi iggs85 as it is an older kitchen I would not spend a huge amount of money on a revamp. It is definitely possible to paint laminate but good preparation is vital to ensure the paint 'sticks'. However a quality painter is going to charge you about the same as your resurfacing quote. Using either a painter or a resurfacing company does let you choose any colour though. The biggest disadvantage of the current benchtop is the bullnose which is very dated. From your photo, the colour and pattern look OK but you could get a stone 'overlay' put on it. They square off the bullnose so it looks more contemporary. An acrylic feature panel on the return is another alternative to vinyl planks. It looks like glass, comes in a good range of colours and is relatively inexpensive compared to glass. See http://zenolite.com/range as an example. You can buy acrylic sheets from Bunnings. You could also use pressed metal panels as a feature eg. http://www.wunderlite.com.au/catalogue/details/1/79/pressed-metal-crystal?start=25 Add some new handles on doors and drawers too....See MoreI need help choosing kitchen cabinets colour selection
Comments (17)Your kitchen is a good size but not huge so I would go with gloss white to match in with your lovely fridge. All white appliances. Light coloured bench top in the grey range. Backsplash, I'd go to tile expo, choose something you love and add some colour behind the stove, the rest of the splashbacks behind the sink etc in white subway tiles. Dark floors as you have chosen, all the walls in the house Dulux Whisper White. This is a great colour to go with everything, i use it all the time in my designs....See Morelooking to replace our old kitchen and design a new one
Comments (8)a new owner may prefer to demolish all the walls and create a completely different arrangement so my suggestions aim to maximise bench space and make the whole room feel more spacious and, rather than extend the kitchen past the pantry and window, a small free standing breakfast table and sideboard would give more purpose to that end of the room ...the whole space is too narrow for an island and too wide without so, one option to create extra counter, would be to consider deeper counters (over standard cabinets with a small void against the wall) a continuous counter along the window (3.7m long and 700mm deep with drop in sink and cooktop (with range hood), built in oven and dw over cabinets and drawers.... having the fridge at the other end, creates an alcove between the pantry and the fridge to have another deeper counter for an appliance centre with out of sight counter space for appliances with a microwave shelf and wall cabinets.....test the idea with a big piece of cardboard to see how much extra space there is on a 70cm deep counter to stand the kettle and toaster etc and still have space left for serving food and making sandwiches etc...simple cabinets and drawers with generous counters should make substantial improvement...See MoreBefore & after: A 1970s apartment makeover
Comments (17)While it is a great update on a budget , I'll be the desenting voice haha . Theres a few things I would have done differently . I don't like the polished concrete floors -- a bit too trendy IMO , especially when other items haven't been updated -- a mix of periods looks a bit strange to me . Ironically , the only place I would have considered the polished concrete is the bathroom floor -- the blue tiles look great , the white cabinets and black taps -- and then you keep brown speckled tiles on the floor ? The kitchen is okay -- I'm not a huge fan of the blue doors , personally I would have gone with bright yellow or orange , and gone with oversized stainless handles on all the cabinets , and a stainless wall oven . And fake weatherboard aged vinyl board flooring in light brown and whitewash mix -- it would tie in better with the cupboards and the new stainless oven and handles . I'd suspect my budget would have been within a couple of thousand of yours ? Likewise , I like the overall design of the living and bedroom areas , with the exception of the concrete -- too trendy , too cold IMO . Personally , I would have gone with beige or cream or maize carpet , maybe extending the kitchen 'aged weatherboard' vinyl flooring into the dining area . Then again , everyone has different tastes ....See Moreamar Shah
