I love your art too! It is stunning, I completely understand you desire to retain it. What would I do? Very simple- I'd put the art on the opposite wall you are trying to fill and leave the wall above the bed blank (it already has a 'feature' colour on it?). I'd put an organza sheer on the bay window, I can't quite make out your colours, perhaps an organza with a slight shimmer to blend with the existing wall colour (not the feature colour though)

Hi Clare, What a lovely property you have secured for yourselves in a fabulous part of the world! I agree with above whoever said...live in the house for 12 months first before doing anything. then ensure you have plan for the whole house so as you do not spend money on one bit then wreck it later to change your minds to a much better plan. Having said that: the first Issue I see is that from the kitchen you cannot see into the garden at the back. It is a very common fault with homes that present to the street ie living rooms entered first and bedrooms private at the rear. All good except we do not live in the front and when you have a beautiful sunny aspect in the rear THAT is where you want to be. Not knowing how many people big or little, will be abiding here, it is hard to go further but it presents to me to make the bar the ensuite (as someone suggested above) pinch space for robe and enjoy a quiet living area on the top level. The laundry could be brought up to where the kitchen is now. Make a room with by fold doors of the area at front where meals area is now for fourth bed/ study. put new kitchen in master bed area and open all the master bed, spa room, play/study plus the family room now to the garden and the sun. Very easy from here to sit and rearrange it all! It really depends what you WANT, how many will be here, how often you have house guests etc etc...…. Thanks for all the comments. There is a window but it's small relative to the whole room. See photo. Left side is the front of house and is north facing. Note west wall (bottom of drawing where the bed will be) has a 5 storey apartment next door. So hot arvo sun is probably less of an issue? Good thought on curtains and blinds. In general thinking all bedrooms are sheers with electric shutout blinds. For privacy and block out at night. Although IIm not sure I've seen something like that on horizontal long windows before and wonder if that will look ugly? Thoughts? Thanks!
