As previously mentioned, not traditional baths can be a nightmare with kids, so if kids are on your agenda, have a good think. Also, if you are not going to stay in the house for a LONG time, consider resale. Parents look for traditional baths for young children and non-traditional bathrooms look good, but can be a real turnoff. If this is your forever, no-kid home, go for it. If not, perhaps reconsider. I am also wondering why you are looking to spend so much on a bathroom that you will not be using (apart from the bath)? Just be careful you haven't overspent/overcapitalised on a portion of the house that really only needs to be functional and modern. People might love the bathrooms on the block, or whatever, but they buy houses in their price-range with functional amenities. Just some food for thought. Good luck with the build.

I think she may have been referring to what is called a "French Pattern" which looks like a random mixture of square and rectangle tiles, often in travertine. However while it looks random it is actually carefully planned, and the tiles are made to a consistent thickness. It also depends on the type of tile that you are using. Many traditionally hand-made ceramic tiles have a natural variation, which adds to their appeal and visual interest. Other types of tiles, such as your porcelains are much squarer, flatter and almost identical. I would suggest that you go with your your choice of grid pattern, as laying a random pattern has too many risks (plus your tiler will hate you and charge lots extra). Be very careful about the selection of your tiles depending on your preference for a rustic more organic look, or a hard-edged architectural look. Make sure that the surface that you are tiling to has been properly prepared and is flat, smooth and true, as your tiler will not be able to correct imperfections if you have a bad wall. You are going to run into trouble if you go with a white or off-white as they won't go with your other whites, and be difficult to keep clean. I would use the dark grey vein in your Caesarstone as a starting point to match with your new floor tiles. The same floor tiles could also be used as a laundry splashback.
