We have four farmhouse style sinks in two different houses, and all present the same problem. It doesn't have anything to do with the material as two sinks are concrete, one stainless steel, and one composite stone. With the two kitchen sinks it's very frustrating spraying out the food particles from corner to corner. Food particles go from one side to the other, and it's very difficult to corral them to the drain. The two concrete bathroom sinks don't have enough slope, so when shaving and brushing teeth, the water and material flow to the opposite side of the sink. It's annoying to wash a 3' wide sink every time it's used. And gross if the sink isn't cleaned from side to side after every use. As a compromise, we're installing a farmhouse concrete bathroom sink with two drains and more slope. As I evaluate many things in life, a, farmhouse sink is a solutions looking for problem.

I put a lot of thought into what kind of sink to install ino my new kitchen: single vs double, stainless steel vs other materials, dish drainer or not, and finally undermount vs top mount. I went safe and chose industrial grade steinless steel, double sink without a drainer but with aditional part with multi purpose. I was very indecisive about the last thing: undermount vs top mount sink and finally decided after reading this - I will go top mount.

Oh this project grows. I’m thinking the kitchen/laundry access is probably worthwhile (light, access, etc). I’m liking the more contemporary layouts, compared to the u version that I liked at an earlier date. Siriuskey your comments about that version being too wide were important. (I eventually remembered design issues with my mum’s last kitchen which was a u and too wide and while it felt spacious, it was a bit ‘not quite right’). oklouises’ wed 5.26pm (2nd option) is probably my preferred option at this stage. I think that would be functional and satisfies my wish list pretty well. Layout and furnishing the greater space is still on the go. I must say, I’ve found everyone’s input with this project so creative and helpful.

I don't think I've ever done orange skirting boards , but I did once get close . For commercial leases , if the company leasing it has an orange logo / corporate colour , I'd have no hesitation doing orange . In the 90's , I bought a standard commercial unit -- 1 of a row of 6 , 200 sq mtr , concrete block ( fire protection -- at least in theory ) . It was maybe 10 years old . The front had a large roller door ( in mission brown ) , beside that a large window in 4 parts , overall 2 mtr x 2 mtr , in goldy brown powdercoated frame , and beside that a single glass and aluminium door in the same colour . Space above the window and single entrance door for a sign , against the concrete blocks painted white . Inside the window/door was an office / reception . Grey with black speckled industrial 'carpet' ; the concrete block wall to the right painted white ; the other 2 walls were that fake 'slatted' plasticated timber ; the suspended ceiling was those white 'cardboard' big rectangular tiles , with a couple of 3ft fluorescent lights . And predictably white skirting boards maybe 10mm x 30mm . I painted the big roller door bright red , the skirting boards bright red , the kick panel around the counter bright red , and the door between the office and the workshop bright red . Less than $1000 , in fact in those days probably $200 in materials and a couple of half days . Listed it for lease , leased within a week . It stood out . But in my house , I bring in colour via art , accessories , furniture , maybe a couple of feature walls ( and things like the front door , letterbox , pots , etc ) .
