I would love some colour help with our tropical "Bali" extension. It will involve extensive retaining walls which we are considering leaving grey (concrete block) and warm timber decking, window frames, railings, etc. Do you think this could look tropical? Photo's would be great, thanks in anticipation of some friendly Houzz advice!

I'm not familiar with these colors but try and keep them similar i.e. A blue grey, a green grey, yellow grey etc. that might help a little bit when thinking about your choice. Also I would do the same colour as you use on the render, (bricks) on the weatherboard above the garage or if you aren't keen on that, make it lighter. I would not go darker up higher. I would however do a very dark fence, assume the concrete one on the left. The other option, as it looks like you are embarking on quite a large project, is to change the existing colours i.e. garage door. I would choose a colour for the garage door which matches with the main house colour. Go with your gut! Good luck.

You want your front door to be a feature and as it is timber it contrasts to the rest of your pallete so it stands out. By trying to match the garage door to the front door it will make the garage door look like more of a feature as it is a much larger area, and is more prominant. In addition your front door will be real timber that is stained, whereas the garage door will be a fake timber, probably a printed metal to look like timber, so you won't be able to get an accurate match. I would try and match the colour of the garage door to the brickwork so it is not a feature. Don't judge how your house will look from an artsist render - the colours are never accurate, just indicitive. The only way to judge is to get samples of each colour and lay them adjacent to each other outside. Your perception of the colours you have selected will change at different times of the day in different light conditions. I don't think there is such a thing as a "correct" colour scheme - everybody perceives colours differently, and has their own preferences. As long as you love it.... Try a light grey (perhaps with green undertones). My roof is brown and my house is light grey. Looks great and a change from cream which is very predictable.
