Colour of bench top on island for splash back, love how you have used stainless and stone and that timber is fabulous, as I said it is stunning.

The splash back will depend on what other furnishings you have - do you lean towards more natural/neutral finishes overall or do you want more colour.

I am a fan of the large scale porcelain tiles but you bench top would be great too

Is that a stunning treetop view I spy outside? I love what you have done with your kitchen so far and I think it would be pointless to add more textured details. I would highly recommend getting a mirrored splashback, either clear or smoked glass so you can throw some light around and enjoy those views even when you are busy in the kitchen :)

Your stunning timber cabinetwork and floor is the feature of the kitchen. Don't try and compete with it with your splashback. It should be plain, elegant and understated in a neutral colour with a stack bond pattern if using tiles.

Hi Bonnie East, I agree with everyone above, your kitchen is stunning. However, I only agree with Paul Di Stefano Design and would say: "less is more". Or, if you are watching "The Block": don't have too many heroes. Your timber cabinetry is the hero here, plus the light coloured kitchen benchtop that really marks the centre piece of your kitchen. So I would recommend to wrap the darker back benchtop material up the walls. Take it to the underside of the black O/H cupboards and then on the other wall in a straight line to the underside of the rangehood. You could then also have a invisible fixed shelf made of the same material and have it fixed to the LHS of your rangehood. Don't take it all the way across to the rangehood but have it finish about 200mm off it. Happy to chat over the phone if you'd like.

Hi - love the whole look and agree with many of the comments above. Avoid fussiness and competition with the other elements. I have used mirror splash backs both smoked and antiqued which actually soften the look and are oh soo.. easy to clean. I've also used grouted tiles (avoid) and extremely large 'planks' of porcelain tiles which are neat crisp and again easy to clean. Love to see your finished effect.

I would use the same surface that is on the island bench

I used tinted reflective glas and it brings the view of my patio garden inside plus makes my kitchen look a lot bigger. It looks fabulous.

Have you thought of smoky glass backsplash? depending on what's opposite, it can look stunning. Easy to clean and no discoloured grout EVER AGAIN. We did this in our kitchen and it looks great. Good luck with your choice.

I think the problem you’re facing may be to do with the lines in the kitchen. From the angle of the photos, it looks like the bottom of the hood is higher than the bottom of the overhead cupboards, which means the top line of the splashback will have to drop down under the cupboards. I think this will ruin the clean lines of the kitchen (and possibly not feasible anyway as tiles, for example, will run up against the bottom of the cupboard door - again it hard to tell from the photo, but it doesn’t look like there’s a lot of room there).

First thought is a stainless steel panel under the hood, which will create a vertical look with hood, and reflect the vertical-ness of pantry? door, oven stack, overhead cpd doors, and then large format rectified porcelain tile, so that the grout lines are minimal, for the remainder. Run this under the overheads and then return at that same height, to meet the stainless steel. The colour and texture of the tile will depend on paintwork colour and how much of a feature you want, but I’d keep it fairly neutral. Good luck!

My other thought is to keep the splashback height the same across the kitchen to align with the underside of the overhead cupboards, although you must check Australian Standards for minimum height for the area behind cooktop, this is a must for safety.

What about a mosaic glass tile like this one https://www.glasstileoasis.com/blue-blue-1-x-1-glass-glossy-iridescent-tile-10654.html It would be like a reflection of the garden outside into the kitchen. It will bring movement into the space and seem to blend seamlessly with the stainless top. The blues and greens in this tile will cool and complement the warmth of the wood in a subtle way as the view beyond does, whilst the feature island bench will pop.

This looks beautiful! I think a white glossy tile with a black grout would look amazing and tie in the white on black aluminium windows opposite.
