Colour selection for bricks — help!
Comments (23)A house in our street is very similar to this, the owners have done a fabulous job celebrating the style of the house, the roof line and bessa blocks have been made a feature, they have decked the front and landscaped the gardens, it is dressed beautifully with 59/60s style pots lowish profile with three legs accopulco chairs out on the deck. I wish I could take a photo (but a bit creepy - going up and taking photos of some one else's front). They have put in new windows and doors. The front garden is large and they have views over the inlet here. It has gone from one of the worst houses to something pretty remarkable. The new Windows are black framed...See MoreExterior Paint Colour Scheme for 70's brick
Comments (7)Hi Melanie yes this lovely brick colour does cause some grief for homeowners when wanting to update colour scheme without rendering.... !!!First of all I would recommend you keep the downpipes blended with the bricks rather than highlight them. Secondly I agree that charcoal grey would be two harsh against your brick colour so maybe look at a three tone colour scheme to breakdown the harshness of a dark colour against the light bricks. For example, dark on gutters and possibly on some smaller trims and mid tone on fascia and the vertical timbers.... obviously the 3rd colour is the brick colour......See MoreTriple fronted 70's house needs a porch cover.
Comments (5)nothing wrong with cream gutters as long as they don't leak but consider a stained timber pergola to match the decking and, unless you want to leave furniture on the deck and sit out there undercover you need relatively small sections of sheeting that only shelter the front door and lets light through but doesn't overheat and cook the heads of someone waiting at the door!..one of the light coloured Polycarbonates like Lazerlite Suntuf comes in 2-3m length and two sheets will cover a section about 1.5m wide but check the flatter profiles like Greca (not shaped liked corrugated iron) as it can be laid much flatter and still shed water away from the house and you can check samples and colours at the major hardware stores...See MoreHelp with exterior colours, dark clinker brick house
Comments (25)Im getting head around it all now, its like putting a puzzle together and realising you’re missing pieces. i agree a deep charcoal/grey would be the best colour with the brick. Unfortunately my husband does not want to paint the aluminium gutters and windows which are brown. . His argument is that if we attempt to do it ourselves it may look worse as it is fiddly and time consuming painting aluminium and not really a job for a first time DIY, especially as it is a two story house. My solution was to match the windows and gutters with a rich grey with a brownish undertone like namadji. It is classified as a grey but looks brown to me. What i am afraid of is doing what your neighbour has done and making the whole house oppressively brown. Do you think I could get away with a deep grey that doesnt quite match the aluminium and then just paint the wooden trims? I would also paint the white brick in the entrance the same colour and the fence and studio. Im afraid of doing all this work only for it to be half arsed. We need to replace the balconies as they are unsafe but unfortunately my husband and i have had a difficult year financially and we don’t want to sink money into the front of house at the moment. The back will need a complete overhaul and we need to preserve funds for that. I suspect ultimately there may not be a solution unless we commit to doing the whole job. Alternatively we could stage it. I am clearly thinking aloud and appreciate all the input and patience!...See Morehelke
