Double glazing - all house windows or some only?
Comments (7)+1, another angle is to not double glaze rooms that are not generally lived in: storage room, bath room, etc. Or not to double glaze rooms that won't affect heating and cooling as much. However would these windows and doors different between double glazing and single glazing annoy you visually? Another consideration to double glaze now is that cost is minute compared with the whole house build cost, and you will have to pay a fair bit more in the future to get the rest removed and double glazed. I have all windows and doors for an old house double glazed with uPVC frame, and am pretty with them. Previously, when I was in an apartment next to a major road, only the bed rooms were doors were replaced with double glazing doors for noise reason....See MoreDouble Glazing vs Laminated Glass - Traffic Noise
Comments (5)The prices sound fair especially considering that they include installation. Viridian have a variety of glass types that are specifically designed to deal with acoustic issues. Anything will be better than 4mm float glass. A reputable window manufacturer will be able to give you great advice on glass selection, if they can't find another one! If you really want to eliminate noise you would end up with 2 panes of glass about 100mm apart but it is unlikely you need to go that far (it is an uncommon solution)....See MoreWhat's the best window furnishing for double glazed windows?
Comments (4)Thanks for this suggestion. I need to be as snug as possible in the cold winter months here in Beechworth, ( the rest of the year is glorious), and I'm looking for the most effective insulation for the windows. I believed cellular blockouts would achieve this, but then thought Double glazing + blockout might be "over the top". I can't see draped curtains being so effective; perhaps I might settle for the blinds, and add some curtains for decorative effect. I can pay $3000.00 if they will achieve the insulation I need....See MoreDouble glazed aluminum colonial windows
Comments (3)faced with a similar dilemma we were told that double glazing could not be made with small panes (and we wanted simple cross bars not colonials) unless we were prepared for about quadruple the basic price so we chose single panes rather than the stick on bars...what about having the colonials in the primary windows and single panes in the others?...See MoreTan Ruth
