We have four farmhouse style sinks in two different houses, and all present the same problem. It doesn't have anything to do with the material as two sinks are concrete, one stainless steel, and one composite stone. With the two kitchen sinks it's very frustrating spraying out the food particles from corner to corner. Food particles go from one side to the other, and it's very difficult to corral them to the drain. The two concrete bathroom sinks don't have enough slope, so when shaving and brushing teeth, the water and material flow to the opposite side of the sink. It's annoying to wash a 3' wide sink every time it's used. And gross if the sink isn't cleaned from side to side after every use. As a compromise, we're installing a farmhouse concrete bathroom sink with two drains and more slope. As I evaluate many things in life, a, farmhouse sink is a solutions looking for problem.

In the ensuite, a towel shelf above the bath taps, not too deep but could use the full width of the wall to store extra towels, bath mats etc. There looks like room above the hamper for a double towel rail (one above the other or one with two rails or double hooks instead of the single ring). May need to move the laundry hamper to the other side of the bath neary the bedroom door. WIR, suggest you just use this for hanging space and if you haven't already get a couple of good size dressers in the main bedroom that would store all your folded items - may not be any need to go to the expense of building another wardrobe. Take down the shelving racks, work out how to optimise the space available for the cloths you need to hang. Tops and pants on double rails or get some trouser racks and shoe racks, do you need much long hanging space, would you store coats in here or is there other storage elsewhere. A high shelf above the hanging could be used for out of season or special occasion clothes stored in suitable boxes. I have attached a photo of our recent custom wardrobe fit out as we don't have a walk in in this house and have had to make the best use of the space available. I measured and drew it up on graph paper first then we installed Neata and Elfa units. Still waiting on the top racks to arrive though to complete it. You will be surprised how much hanging space you can get with double rails. There are plenty of options for shoe storage racks if you want to include these in your walk in or cupboards that could be unobtrusive in your bedroom. Good luck and I hope this helps.

Bigreader, good morning. I do not know where you are or if you are the one who does all the washing in the household but here in Melb the only way we get it dry is to spread it about the family room, drape it across any heat source put it under some kind of cover outside and wait a week!! I know the alf is social but after a day in the garden, a trip to the beach (which yes we can do in Melb on the one or two days of summer!!) any general grubby activity entry not into the living room but thru the laundry is preferable to shed the dirty shoes, gloves, hats, towels etc and if it is raining there is additional incentive to not get wet! How many homes do you see with an extra roof over the laundry door? If you sneek a peek down the sideway you will see add on, rustic, jerry built covers over the door. It make very practical sense to me to share the wonderful properly structure of the alfresco with the laundry external door too. Better that than another leantoo to protect an area that will be in use 100 times a week? As to using the trough for bbq: yes laundry is the common place for drinks station and a good one it is too! Therefore excellent to be handy to the social area...... I rest my case!? I would like to know who agrees with me: comes down to how we use the rooms and areas of our homes!! From a practical, ever funtional housewife who hates the 'chinese laundry' spread about the whole house just to enjoy clean dry clothes and linen!!! Cheers Margot
