Comments (3)Life’s a compromise Hannah. I can see what you are doing amd it will make the house more usable, In answer to your questions. The ideal bedroom size is 3.6x3 which allows 0.6 depth for cupboard. But there are plenty of people with much smaller bedrooms. The biggest prob I see is the toilet with no basin. Not nice if bathroom occupied. The laundry is fine but you don’t seem to have any general storage. Think What do you need to store. Toys, books, linen, bags, Xmas decorations, brooms, vacuum, coats….....See MoreFirst draft floor plan advice
Comments (24)hi, IF you are on acreage, I do NOT understand WHY you are not ORIENTATING the House to have the MAJORITY of the rooms facing NORTH. ( the Living room + Dining + your Master Bedroom and leading to a nice sunny Outdoor Entertaining area on the deep-verandah etc).. Read up on "Passive Solar Design" = - orientate the main living areas to capture the Northern sun . and - minimum 500mm Eaves (you have the Verandah's, so this will be good. and - minimum 1500mm Eaves for the rooms facing West; and - provide plenty of flow thru ventilation. - I love my Louvre Windows.. and - insulation & floors and walls that are thicjk. and - double-glazing (if you can afford it) - utility areas such as bathrooms, robes, kitchen can be on the Southern side of the house.. Railing - yes, you are right that it is not needed - the 2 pictures that you have provided are lovely. Access to Outdoor Entertaining - if I am reading your floor plan correctly - access is ONLY to the Front yard / side yard - to the HEAXAGONAL Porch section -- this is lovely - but will it and the 2 metre porch be enough space? - WHERE are you going to put your BBQ etc? oklouise - I totally agree with you - NEED to decide WHERE the Garage, driveway etc will be. bigreader - I agree with all of your comments and especially that the Lounge/ dining size is not big enough....See MoreWorkers cottage floor plan advice
Comments (9)much as i prefer a separate powder room including a handbasin the separate powder room takes up too much space better used for a bigger kitchen and dining area and retain a bigger a master bedroom with modest single bedroom/study ... my stair location doesn't need a full wall and the open stair well allows more light downstairs and a downstairs side entry from an extended carport and easy access to under stair storage ...and i've stolen space off the biggest downstairs bedroom to increase the other bedroom and laundry...hopefully the new indoor stairs could allow you to lose the outdoor stairs and reduce size of new externally screened western windows and enjoy more space in the garden previously needed for the outdoor stairs...See MoreFloor plan advice
Comments (9)Hello there, I am assuming the bed, rumpus, bed is the facade of the house, but which way is north? I like the tweaks OK Louise has made: but half and half robe for the minor bedrooms would be good. I like the ensuite off the robe and 4 m long is huge!Maybe that side as long and half hanging and narrower boxes or shelves backing the ensuite. Rather than the internal toilet, what about pinching a tad where the little window(OKL's plan) in the corner is in master: (4.5 is still very generous for it) pop the loo there with a window and you can have a WIL. The ensuite is good and IMO you do not need more width in WIR pop it into the bedrooms.... Good one!...See Morebigreader
