yes...but windows need to suit the room inside, orientation and outlook and looking at your photo you may find that it's more cost effective to remove three small windows and replace with one big window that may be all sliding or have sections of fixed glass and sections of awnings or double hung windows either horizontally or vertically...but do you need every window in the original size and location? ..take photos from every side of your house and make a numbered list of the sizes of all the existing windows and you can discuss with a window supplier to get an idea of costs BUT windows are such a vital feature of passive solar design that you should take this opportunity to rethink every window....does every window suit the purpose, are some windows too big, too hot inside, in the wrong location, not private, missing a good view or cooling breeze...check yourhome.gov.au for advice to get the best results for such a major investment and you will need skilled help to remove and install so also time to consult a builder

Yes I agree... the awnings are not the immediate thing to look at. I really like that deep bluish slate colour against the brick. Its a really classic house, so keep it classic. I'd replace the security roller blinds with ironwork, or the sort of unobtrusive flyscreen security screens. They detract from it all. I'd find a classier roller door, and repaint all the cream trim a more deep tone, deep blues, greys and greens would look great. You have some lovely features in the garden, don't remove all those standard roses!! but replace the patchy yellow hedges with some classic box or rosemary hedges. stick to the classic plants...jasmine, gardenia, box hedges, camellias, magnolias. a jasmine,clematis or rose trailed over and arch would make a great entrance. paint the front door a nice dark colour to match, or even contrast with bright red. If you do end up replacing the awnings, consider replacing them with a forest green bullnose roof.

I guess the first question is what do you want to achieve ?Do you want a more modern look , or a more useful space ? In other words , looks or practicality ? Looks wise , I thgink you need a plan for the whole house . I'm not a fan of brown , but the darker brown around the window looks good -- the gutters , the dirty white of that canopy , the wrought iron less so . Just me , I'd waterblast everything , I'd cut off the wrought iron ( an angle grinder should do fine ) , and paint the gutters , and the concrete canopy , in that darker khaki brown , or a metallic charcoal 9 that would need the window and surround done too ) . As far as a deck , basically I'd go a square , the size of the 'moon' one there , if that makes sense , so probably 2.5 x 2.5 or whatever the distance from the front door to the very front wall is . Stain it that khaki brown , or charcoal ( the same as gutters etc , not some brown , some charcoal ) . And the canopy I'd 'square' that too in an open beam -- leave the existing concrete canopy , just add and square it off , same size as the deck . Any bigger it will look out of proportion , I personally wouldn't have railings or built in seating ( who wants to sit out the front for longer periods IMO ) , just step down to lawn or footpath .

I'm assuming this is a reasonably recent purchase , and you are working your way around the exterior ? Door 2 seems to be halfway through a renovation , but what are you going to do for railings and the like ? The surface seems to be recovered , but the side hasn't ? Wouldn't you plan a complete make-over , with maybe timber or steel uprights , some 2 metres to support a roof/veranda , some 1 metre to support a railing , maybe glass panels or railings or palings -- that would make more sense than a self-supporting awning IMO . So then Door 1 and 3 . What is the room door 1 leads into ? And is door 3 downstairs , to the left of door 1 ? Is there a sail awning used as a car cover near door 3 ? Which door is used as the main entrance ? Doors 1 and 3 look like they front the street , so to me you spend some $$$ and make them features , whether by having sail awnings or pergolas covered with clear perspex or even panels or battens to partially cover the entrances from the street view -- basically , a plan , rather than an idea . And on that note , the areas surrounding all 3 of those doors seem to have different profiles to the materials -- I assume they are additions , but why 'advertise' that fact ? Presumably before your purchasing , but thats partially why I wonder about doing extended roofs with battens or panels , so the similar but different styles aren't so obvious , while also offering protection from the elements and even nosey eyes ?
