Which Lamp?

They are both so very similar in shape and size I would just pick the one that you really love. In the second picture, the lamp shade seems to be the same shape as the picture...that might be a bit matchy matchy? But it's still a beautiful lamp.

A rug under the table will cause problems when moving the chairs. To be safe and no nuisance, it has to be a huge rug. (A large round(!) floor cover....?) I like the street lamp. But I guess it is a STREET - lamp and makes the room rather sterile. It is kind of tallish in the corner and enhances to large distance to the ceiling. bring something else down from the ceiling. I guess you don't want a lamp because you have downlights. Do some search for some nice art, which does not move (shadows) in the light. Or use a beige old fashioned chandelier. Go bit by bit. And think about the carpet before you get it. Work on flow and lightness, delight, round parts, oval to balance the room. If I painted something, I would paint the stark white frames a little softer/toned. The white is a hard contrast. So is the black. (And I would probably paint a half wall white.) And the black ornament (light?) that comes down from the ceiling must come further down, should be larger. And then I would play with the room for dinner situations..... you can bring all the colour in you like. I wonder what the room looks like during the day. Try taking the (beautiful) mirror out and hang a canvas. The plant on the table looks forlorn. The Arabic lamp in the left corner looks lonely too. this would be a nice corner for a piece of furniture. An extra chair finds room in spots like this often. Do you have enough space when serving food? (Can you get light switches in a colour like the walls?) I would probably take 2 chairs out unless they are constantly needed and take the placemats off. Put a larger item.... maybe a plate of fruit in the middle. The repetition of chairs and placemats enhances the very formal atmosphere. I have just seen a cream coloured chandelier. Glass is too stark and black not suited to brighten the situation up. I love the room for its sheer size and uncluttered atmosphere!

Sorry for the delay in advising you of where to purchase the fittings. I tend to purchase fittings for clients within a project. But, The top one can be purchased from Beacon Lighting and is on special for $96.75 each. The middle fitting is from Emac & Lawton and the last one must have vanished from production, as I haven't been able to find it again. I have included a fitting from Mondo Luce below, called Dora Emac & Lawton have a new fitting as well - Amstel:

How exciting for you to have such a clean clear slate to work with. Your room a somewhat like mine in a house we have just renovated and I had some great advice from our project manager/designer. We also have a huge window with an amazing outlook, one we didn't want to hide but needed covering at night. She helped us choose full sized curtains in a sheer texture that softened the room but even when the curtains are closed, still allow the outside view and colours to show. They stack back to either side of the window. Of course the roller blind is ideal for privacy and it is so well hidden when retracted. When your curtains are open it looks like you have the beautiful piece of art with that view. When our curtains are open we have a lake and huge jacaranda outside so I placed a piece of Indigenous art on the opposite wall which bought in colour, particularly the mauve of the jacaranda, to the room. Not sure what your fourth wall is like but would there be room to put your existing green based art on that wall, to reflect the outside green. The chair in the room is probably a little large but there is no sense putting it in the other corner unless your are ready to drag it across the room when you want to watch tv (when everyone else is watching something on the other tv). What about moving your plant into the corner beside the tv on a raised stand. With a smaller chair and the plant moved then two large freestanding lamps would look great. Can't wait to see your new artwork and where your room goes from here. I hope my photos help with my explanation, note the jacaranda was at the end of its flowering. We have since finished the room and introduced a little more colour.
