Need help with exterior colour scheme
Comments (11)Your welcome Mari, like I said you already have a good eye. I don't think you necessarily have to paver the whole drive either. I’d recommend doing driveway improvements after you’ve done the major stuff that might scuff up the existing driveway, like landscape contractor or fence guys with equipment and extra dirt or stone being scraped off of it. I was just thinking a skinny band of pavers to help out, maybe 3’ or however wide the covered walk is on the side next to the house. It looks like the existing drive is asphalt. You can just saw cut a nice straight edge and then install the pavers next to it. I also did the band across the end to help fix the cracked piece. You could have the asphalt resealed black to make it pop or since it looks like most of the sealer is worn off you could probably pressure wash and do a colored acrylic sealcoat. It might work but you’d have to do more research and ask some professionals in your area of Australia. I like the idea of a lighter color on the drive so it doesn’t get intensely hot on summer days. Here were a few of the color choices off this website I pulled up. Comments (7)Your house is brand brand new and so yes it does look a bit stark, but don't rush to repaint! Once you have added shrubs and it has settled in it will look really lovely. Put a little money into landscaping and it will look lovely. It just needs time to settle into the landscape. Definately don't paint it grey! That is not a look that works north of sydney in my opinion! It will look grim in the qld sunshine I think. Be patient, it won't take long for new plants to grow up in QLD. What comes to mind is your house is like a bride in a white dress... its the bouquet of flowers that really make her look beautiful. Try looking at bridal magazines for some inspiration for what garden style you like. 2 approaches I would try. Tropical foliage and tropical colour with bright gingers, lipstick palms, cordylines etc.. There are plenty of species that will do fine in the subtropics. Or the second and perhaps what I would favour for myself is to create an avenue of colourful flowering trees along the driveway like jacaranda, frangipani, flame tree, or perhaps one spreading poinciana out front in the middle of the yard if there is space. If you want some real wow factor employ a landscape gardener to give you something really unique, a great feature design. Or for a simpler approach just go to the nursery and pick what you like the look of. The house will look great with any sort of garden to soften the edges....See MoreAdvice needed on Exterior Paint
Comments (4)What's wrong with the current colour, I hate to say it but if you wanted to change anything paint the garage door charcoal to tie in with the steps and paint the gutters same as wall colour, already love the house colour spend your money on something else, perhaps paint the roof a soft classic grey or white. cheers...See MoreExterior Colour Scheme Help
Comments (7)Thanks for all the feedback! I was leaning towards keeping the original roof colour, to be honest it was my partner who wanted to consider other colours. So these comments have mainly assured me the original is ok! A brown would have been my 2nd choice. The challenge will be hiding the new mis matched tiles. I hadn't thought having the roof painted would require extra maintenance in future as it is already painted concrete tiles. My last house was the same and pressure washing it removed alot of original paint, leaving it patchy. So ended up getting that one repainted. That house was 10 yrs older though. I feel like painting the driveway would require more maintenance, but I would love to get it done properly to tone down all that orange! And yes one day soon a new garage door would be good too! I've thought about bringing brown/timber into the exterior but am scared there will be too many different colours going on if i dont do it right! So the decision on painting the roof (the same/ similar colour) after tiles are replaced is on hold for now as we are looking at adding an extension with 2nd storey at the back. If that happens we will want the new roof to match the existing. (I think!) Thanks for the ideas, much to think about!...See MoreCee
