looks good with the right selection of materials but do not love the gable over the garage door and unless there is a great view from inside the upstairs room from a sitting position i would have a solid balcony fence to provide more privacy from the street

Thanks everyone! There is a northerly elevated view from the front room, which will be our home office.

Maybe everyone else is being polite , but I'm underwhelmed too -- it is too generic and too lacking .

The bricks , as drawn , aren't right . Lighter , rough finished off-white bricks may look okay , but I like schist or similar slates done in a stacked style .

That downstairs window shows as lots of small panes , and I like that idea , or what about doing it in cedar ( or cedar stained timber ) framing , and carry that through to the front door and garage door and the upstairs 'poles' ? The front entrance terrace would also be fine in cedar , or maybe onyx or marble tiles .

The gable I'd do in a flat textured finish , with a 'fake' octagonal vent , and I'd do coach type lights ( maybe even in copper to tie in with the cedar ? ) either side of the garage , 2 more downstairs and 2 upstairs either side of the sliding door .

Also unlike most , I like the glass -- its clean and clear , and sort of says I'm not hiding anything . I also think a closed in balcony is a bit claustrophobic , and dare I say it , 90's .

Then as everyone else says , landscaping , fencing , and bring in some colour via a variety of plants ( I mean yellow flaxs and green cactus and red leaved shubs , not begonias and roses ) -- even a couple of large , colourful glazed pots with strong plants would add to it .

Spend $10-15k extra now , and the house will look $200k better .

Cedar gets that greyish tone over the years with no maintanence , or oil it regularly and it should keep its original reddish tones .

But you also notice I added the cedar type stains too -- basically , a hardwood with a cedar or jarrah or similar warm tone stain , as opposed to oak or ash or light tones , which I don't think would suit , and in fact would be boring haha .

If you want something that pops you could ask your drafts person to change up the roof as that would give it what is missing, style, it's all over the place, sorry, stone clad and timber posts, glass balcony are done to death , if that room has a view isn't it wasted on an office. You need to be shown more options What climate are you in,

You sound young, so think outside the square, perhaps using concrete Besser blocks for the posts and then carrying that across to a Parapet style garage to match. Go and check out display homes every second one has stone clad pillars or timber posts, it's eye opening, I just did this 2 days ago OMG

Actually , looking at everything again , the 2 roof styles are strange .

If you deleted the gable over the garage , and just had it as a sloping roof , it would gel better , BUT the entire place could look 90's , and lets face it , it would be boring or at least plain .

But if you kept the gable , and doubled down by doing the same above the veranda , if its done right it would actually look different enough , but planned and balanced , to be different in a good way .

Another suggestion. The brick pillars to be in recycled bricks to give some interest. Have you thought about the practicality of the glass balustrade. Maybe continue the recycled brick across the balcony instead of glass. It could be finished at a level that still allows for views, with a metal balustrade on the top of the brick to comply with safety regulations.

Recycled brick, and removal of gable

No offence Dreamer , but personally I think all those pictures reinforce my thought , that a sloping roof above the garage door is too predictable , too cliched , too expected .

I assume the designer put the gable there to take it away from the expected , but by having the 'other' roof style ( I think its called a hip roof ? ) above the balcony , it doesn't look right . Risky , but thats why I'd be tempted to do 2 gables ( a 3rd one above the 2 upstairs windows would look too square IMO ) , as they don't offend , but conversely aren't what 95% of people would do -- adds some individuality without looking too outside the square .

Interesting Dreamer mentioning Recycled Bricks, on a trip to a timber yard last week I took this photo of Austral Bricks yard

(from within the car) with a great photo of a house using "recycled Original bricks" and not a gable in sight. I'am a fan of these bricks in builds and paving and I should add that on my visit to the Display Homes last week, GJ Gardiner had real brick feature walls in one of their houses

Hmm not bad! The recycled brick is growing on me! The second gable roof does add a bit more interest pottsy.

One of the things that I'm not crazy about with house designs like this is the dominance of the garage door - it is the single largest thing on the facade. My preference is having garages that aren't a design feature, and if possible, hidden from the front view if that makes any sense. And I agree with the comments about the garage gable in this instance.

I love the look of the recycled brick!! i was reading down and thinking I'm going to have to admit I was underwhelmed too, but I think it's the grey... the texture and warmth and irregularity of the recycled brick really brings some character. If you also use recycled timbers and old railway sleepers in the garden it will have a lovely rustic/modern/industrial vibe. check out the moodboards on brick suppliers websies, you might get some ideas for what roofing and materials to for. https://www.pghbricks.com.au/inspiration/styles

I'd also replace the garage door with a warm timber one. the solid grey door gives it s fortress kinda look. i'd also landscape in interesting sculptural plants like grass trees, ferns and natives. a really stunning pink flowering gum (they have smaller compact varieties) would look great too!
