If I really want to be picky, I prefer just the three pieces on one side, just swap the plants for the brighter colour. I like things a bit off balance. I hate to do this to you, but memo for the future - always get non reflective glass in frames, makes a big difference. Now have some fun with some Christmas decorations to give it a whole new look:)) You will find this is an area to have a lot of fun with and to make regular changes to....See MoreNeed some art/decor ideas for my dining area and lounge
Comments (14)Hi Ange, Megan from online art gallery, Bluethumb, here. I'm loving the mix of industrial and bohemian pieces you have! I believe that a statement artwork above the dining room table would look great, especially one that balances the two interior styles you have working for you. Here's one by a Bluethumb feature artist I think would perfectly fit with the different aspects of the room, as well as the warm colour palette. https://bluethumb.com.au/brewman/Artwork/summer-landscape-ron-brown The piece is called Summer Landscape by Melbourne artist, Ron Brown. I've mocked it up in situ for you, so you can really visualise it in the space. It measures 120cm by 90cm, so should fit nicely on the wall. I have some alternative ideas for you, also from our feature artists, if that one doesn't appeal: https://bluethumb.com.au/george-hall/Artwork/silent-heat-135-x-90cm-acrylic-painting-on-canvas https://bluethumb.com.au/suebannisterartist/Artwork/the-honey-comb-effect https://bluethumb.com.au/haruyomorita/Artwork/Soul-Portrait-2015-1 https://bluethumb.com.au/bradley-kickett/Artwork/bandee-lakes https://bluethumb.com.au/dinah-wakefield/Artwork/last-light-dinah-wakefield Let me know if you'd like any of these works mocked up! Some ideas for styling would be to keep the space feeling fresh with some plants, perhaps some succulents or native flowers on the dining room table. This would fit perfectly with the trees in Ron Brown's piece! Hope this helps! Megan...See MoreHelp! Decorating ideas needed for my new living room
Comments (11)The right coffee table, throw and wall art are not going to be enough to disguise the fact that you have downsized from a much larger home with your large, dark, formal furniture that dominates a compact room. Have you considered moving pieces to other rooms, or selling it, and buying clean-lined, contemporary style furniture off eBay? This style will fit the proportions of your room, and make it easier to live with your dust free strategy. The beauty of second-hand furniture is that when you can afford to upgrade you can sell it again on eBay. and recover your costs. Never paint perfectly good pieces of timber furniture as it will devalue the pieces. Sell them as is, somebody will cherish them as they are. I would keep the couch, decide on the tone of your new timber floor, and use these two elements to decide on the rest of your colour scheme. Your celing fan/light is also a distraction, so replace with something sleek and contemporary that is not such a feature. Your room layout is problemmatic with the number of doors coming into the room, but it is hard to suggest a better stategy without a floorplan. Comments (6)Hi there! What a lovely home - we would agree with bigreader, rugs would definitely help soften those hard surfaces and can add another element of colour to tie the room together - one under the dining table, or one in front of the lounge, or both! If you're trying to avoid adding warmth, try to avoid rugs that have a deep pile and opt for low pile woven or tufted options. Another thing to consider is the materials of the rug - soft fibres like bamboo and silk are cool to the touch as opposed to materials like hemp which have a "warmer" feel underfoot. In terms of colour, I noticed you have accents of green in your chair upholstery and artwork - try to keep to cool greens or blue/greens to offset the warm wood tones.
