You can have a pull up range hood built in to your bench top. Think Smeg does one called downdraft. They have been out a while, so might be more. Basically you install behind your hot plate and pull it up when your cooking.

Thanks Luke, regarding the panelled front exhausts, have you seen any in the market that looks very slimline? The ones ive seen are pretty ugly. Do you know if i got a separate vent, whether i could get an electrician to attach it to an exhaust fan that can duct the steam out? Otherwise , happy to hear other solutions for a steamy bathroom. Our IXL Tastic is still going after 10 years of daily use. The heat isn't super powerful but we have ducted heating so its neither here nor there. The fan however is quite good. Not saying the Tastic is the best but its still going with the original lamps......and it was cheap to buy and install.

contact an electrician and they should be able to find a suitable replacement and also advise about how to cover any gap
