stone or laminex bench top? pros and cons of each please
Comments (11)Hi Carmel, I'm not a architect and I do value everyone's professional opinion, but can't help thinking that perhaps you and your husband are both right. The breakfast table would look great in a natural stone, it is the where you eat, have tea or wine on, maybe a small project, entertain or have a fork fight on. Choose a granite or marble that's going to tie in with the splash back and your lovely timber floors and go with a wow factor like a stand out vein or run of colour in it. Makes it interesting. As for the rest a dark or even black solid surface or laminate is ideal. I find them soft and touchable, easy to maintain, a pleasure to work on and it adds the extra modern elements that's missing from this lovely galley style kitchen. Corian is another brand of solid surface but a textured dark laminate from A reputable laminate supplier should do it too. Make this room an energy that you want to be in not just look great. Comments (23)Just a thought, have you checked your lovely flooring will persist under new cabinets or more importantly the gap created by the island bench. Possibly put a simple narrow breakfast bar (with power point of course) across a couple of the window sections, lovely to sit and look out of the window and preserve the look and the light. Then you would save some depth into the living space, as the current breakfast bar is quite large and deep....See Moreunder main roof garage v carport
Comments (6)Given I don't have any personal knowledge of the unit, area, valuation, specific pro's and con's that you have knowledge of and anything else I would personally need to make such a decision, I wouldn't feel comfortable providing an estimate because I don't have the full picture. I think you could certainly offer them that amount dt and see how you go? Either way, I think from the seller's perspective, it is a reasonable offer that is not that much under asking so they would most likely be happy with that. Are you happy to counter offer if they come back at you with an alternative price? I'm sorry I can't be more specific dt... again, it could be worthwhile seeking out some more localised and specialised advise from a mortgage broker in your area... even if you're not necessarily needing finance etc, they will have independent advice that may help you with the answer you are seeking. That is exactly the kind of support and assistance we received and we found it to be extremely helpful. I hope you find the answer you are looking for and I apologise I couldn't give you my idea of a reasonable offer....See MoreHelp please! Kitchen layout, 1927 house, small constrained, 3m ceiling
Comments (20)my suggestion would be to keep the new kitchen in proportion to the size and scale of the whole house so i prefer option 2 with cabinets only as high as the top of the window, tall narrow fridge (less than 80cm wide) next to the back door with wall mounted mw and wall cabinets all round, no tall cabinets, more counter on the fridge wall then stove, sink and dw along the window wall to make sure that there is counter on either side of the stove and sink and locations for a toaster, kettle and other appliances..but exact location of appliances depends on budget and sizes of all the cabinets you want to use.. but, if you plan to remove gas in future, why not start with electric appliances and best insulation ready to add solar power at a future date? ...eg check out the electric air sourced hot water heaters and consider an electric flame heater for the kitchen fireplace and save the gas heater for the hew rear living area although it may be possible to have one heater with hot air connected to the other rooms with an in roof ducting system and, if you have long term plans to alter the rear lean-to research options for renovating the whole house and then plan all the work in stages...eg i would have the new laundry/bathroom next to the refurbished bedroom (master suite?) and have the future new rear living area with the north aspect...See MoreNatalie Currie
