The current kitchen tends to have an Asian/Japanese influence which I like, flooring is lovely, From the pictures I would remove the high ledge in front to the stools. I would also love to see timber look cabinets to match/work with the floor. Without seeing a floorplan It's hard to see if changing out all the black Granite would make the kitchen feel any lighter, you could speak to a lighting specialist to help with improving lights

Ensure all light globes are daylight globes. Amazing impact putting all new globes in.
Paint all black painted items a white or bright colour. Remove the high benchtop. Add bright accessories and artwork

The following is a rough idea of how Beech coloured cabinets could work making the space feel warmer, the white/grey cabinets are cold making it all look and feel dark. And as previously mentioned up grade lighting. Love your black Barn door and look forward to the extra photos you mentioned.

I think removing the ledge and changing benchtop and waterfall edge to a white with grey vein would make a huge difference. It would tie in well to the existing light grey cabinetry and you could paint the pantry door in the same colour. I think your cabinetry also goes well with your current paint colour. Adding lighting inside the glass fronted overhead cabinets would also brighten the space. Good luck with your reno.

I think it’s a lovely kitchen, if changing anything I agree removing the high bench top will make a huge difference, love how it ties in with the black door, I like the dark bench top but if you wanted lighter consider stone overlay, I would just add some great pieces on your bench, love your masters stools , It just needs a little tweek

Its your kitchen , but I don't think its too bad at all -- I reckon the worst sin is the wall where the Japanese style barn door is -- it looks too blue in the photo , and doesn't play well with the brown tones .

The benchtop looks brown , not black , and whilst I'd personally prefer black with veins , the cost would be what would put me off -- I don't mind spending $$$ , but it wouldn't make enough extra impact for those $$$ for me .

So thats it -- paint the blueish toned wall an off-white , and possibly change the picture frame for something brighter -- imagine that frame in a sunshine yellow or similar ! Done for $200 .
