I need help with my entryway/foyer.

Hi, I RENT a 2-storey townhouse in Australia. I have searched for inspiration for under-stairs storage but it appears that the stair well I have is quite odd & different than anything I can find online. Also at this stage what ever I put there needs to be temporary.
I also have an antique dresser in the foyer - it is very functional with the storage and the mirror is handy for last minute checks but at times I find in dominating to the space.
I would appreciate any suggestions.

Comments (16)Hi I really like the grey. It is on-trend, neutral and would allow the painting to 'pop.' Perhaps if the baskets were white the whole picture would hold together better. All of the photoshopped colours you have chosen are cool/blue toned and the baskets are warm/yellow toned. I think that is what is confusing you. Also the vase seems too tall for that setting. Comments (26)i prefer the ribbed glass to the slatted timber. what about creating a purpose for the difference in level. like create a banquette seating area for putting on shoes, or some low storage for things like hats, umbrellas, stuff you'd use near the door. If you made a bench without the screen it would be defined but still open. Do you remember the old telephone tables? maybe you can find one from 70s and set it up opposite the door? You could also add some feature tile to the vertical face of the little rise, it would make it more defined as you step up if it was a contrasting colour. but again the bench might help see the step as you go down. Or even just a little rug that changes the floor colour and makes the step down more obvious, it sort of disappears visually otherwise....See MoreHerbal Bohemia (Amber)

10 years agoAre you handy with a drill? Just wondering if the local hardware store in Australia sells cheap screens or window shutters that you can add hinges to to fashion into a screen? if this is feasible, make sure to paint it white to camouflage and cover under the stairs. Example:
