How can I make my bedroom more appealing.

last year

I dont enjoy sleeping or spending time in my bedroom. It has no charm and no character. Window looks out to my neighbours ugly weatherboard and water tank.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Replace the doona cover with a white cover. That will instantly lift the room. Get some new cushion covers. In strong colours. Similar to the photo. Or even in the same colour as the ottoman at the end of the bed. Put some screening on the outside fence to camouflage the neighbours . Do not block that wonderful sun.

New bedding would instantly lift the room, a rug under the bed, you could even have a boho look to compliment your wall art, beautiful linen curtains with a white roller blind, yes don’t block the light, hang a garden screen in front of your neighbours to further enhance your view

Very opulent boudoir you have created! I think you could handle my suggestion, so here goes. The bed head rest against a perfectly framed wall by the windows, although I think you could amp it up to the next level. I'm sure you've heard of Versailles hall of mirrors, if not look it up, I think you'd like it. My suggestion is along those lines. Install a thin timber bead, creating a square panel above your bed, and wallpaper the inside of the panel in a damask looking wallpaper, perhaps with the peacock damask colour. These timber moldings are inexpensive, and could really create a stunning and elegant interior detail, which could easily be applied to each wall in your bedroom. Alternatively you could upholster a panel above your bed with diamond buttoning, which looks studded, in a peacock velvet with brass studs around the inside of the moulding. An upholsterer could do this on a simple sheet of ply for you, or I would do this myself with a staple gun, spray adhesive and wadding (Dacron). Select your fabric, and trim the edges with your studs or a cord rope etc. Fix it to your wall in a multitude of ways, like split battens, or a secured wire strap as heavy artworks have, make sure your wall hooks are capable of the boards weight, and voila!

I think you can definitely do this, provided you can move your door which you said you can. I have an ensuite at the side of my main bedroom - it's small but perfectly adequate. I measured it and including all external walls the ensuite takes up 1.4 x 3.05m space (my bedroom including the ensuite is 4.7m long so shorter than yours.). My room is wider (3.9m) so I can have a wardrobe along the wall where your door is and the bed on the opposite wall. But for you, I'd keep your bed where it is and look at putting your bed in a 'wardrobe wall'. you have the depth (1000mm) before the window starts and I think 3.3 m is wide enough ... ~800mm robe either side of bed. See pics below for what I mean. Only you will know if this is too squeezy but an ensuite can make so much difference to your lifestyle, I think it could be worth it!

Hello Anna , Camellias are a beautiful tree and they come from the cooler regions of Asia and are more suited to a humid / cooler conditions. I have them on the southern side of my home here in Sydney where they have protection from the hot sun . Flowers will burn as will some leaves from hot winds and dry conditions are not really to their liking . I’m not saying they won’t grow, they will but will struggle and need to keep roots moist . They become quite broad and will eventually brush against cars etc as your driveway is narrow . Crepe myrtles are from India originally and the warmer Asian countries. They do lose leaves and with this comes a change of view as the leaves turn a bright orange/yellow and give you completely different look . After this the tree will be bare for a few months exposing the stunning bark ( more mature trees ) that you just cannot walk past without touching . Then in spring the new growth is like green ! They don’t really NEED to be pruned but you will get lots more flowers . As you are using this in a driveway i would just let the grow naturally and as a narrow, tall ish tree =. Great for drive way . Let me take a picture of mine here in Sydney . I will send it next . Also , as you are driving around your area keep an eye out for trees that catch your eye , ask your local nursery man , if you have one . Crepes love hot dry areas and will not need watering at all after established . That’s why some councils in nsw use them as nature strip trees = low care !! Most important of all ...... enjoy yourself !! Gardening very rewarding

Paint the walls a warm colour, replace the sheers with full length ones. Add a large i plush rug. Buy a wardrobe to hide clothes.

Thankyou for the ideas. I ordered long white tie up linen curtains and ill use a drift wood as curtain rods. Ill look for a rug and maybe some live plants to energise the room. ὠA

I thought your photo was taken from the entry door but it's the bathroom so that would be too tight for the bed but what about swinging the chest of drawers and mirror onto that wall so that the bed could move across to allow more space between it and your hanging rack, the curtains sound lovely

A small robe as mentioned by Kate would make a big difference to help unclutter the room

Could you swing bed so that it backs onto window? That way you can get the light in but not worry about view.

If not renting I'd take everything out and paint the walls. Then you just need minor cosmetic fixes to make the room look nice.

CP bed underneath a window is doable however it will be off centre. And there are gaps in the construction of the windows allowing cold air to come through and I need to create a small bed board so pillows stay in place.

Cover the windows with some frosted contact paper to soften the ugliness, have a capsule wardrobe and pack the rest of your clothes away, you have a lot of clothes.
