I didn't realise you were into my age group, you are holding up very well. I thought the house was new, that is great you have long term options, are you in a Seniors development with Anglicare? They seem to be very good, they do a lot for my mother-in-law. If the lounge is for you in the hot weather then go all out with a chaise. I just love mine, trouble is I rarely finish a TV programme before I nod off. Posting photos is easy, assuming you will be using a normal camera and Microsoft - I don't know Apple, can't work it out from my iPod. Download your photos to your computer, then click on the "attach images" below here. You can only do one at a time with a limit of 4. Click on 'browse' below and you will get a drop down box "choose file to upload". Click on Pictures options, click on a photo and then click "open". The next box on here with then give you the 'browse' option and you repeat the process. Hope you have a great trip to Townsville. Haven't been there, I've done Rocky, McKay, Bowen, Cairns and Port Douglas. Cairns and PD were great for shopping, but of course they are very touristy so there is heaps on offer.

In my early twenties I designed kitchens for my mother and two aunts (Uncle built them and they worked), but when it came to designing my own - had to fit a constrained space and no possibility of extension - I chewed my lips for ages - like Nicole, I drew and measured ad infinitum, and used graph book walls, views etc. I did one extra thing - which I think worked - I listed all that I wanted to store, and tried to analyse how I liked working in the kitchen. Some things I had to settle for because of space (such as a smaller dishwasher) but most of it has worked. We have a corner pantry, which I (and the cat, husband a bit larger) can walk into, but have not put small appliances in there - they sit in a large drawer beneath the main working bench, which also works well. It all looks good to me Nicole and thinking carefully about needs and how things work in advance usually results in something you'll be happy with. Good luck!

I would go with 30cm depth as it allows more flexibility. I understand what you are saying about paperbacks and wasted space to the front not being a great look, but in my mind it is better to have that space at the front than to have larger books projecting beyond the front of the shelves which is what you would have with 20cm deep shelves. If it is a working library then the number and size of books may change over time and the 30cm depth allows for maximum flexibility. On a side note the 78cm long shelves need to be strong enough to support all of the weight of those books. The string shelving you are looking at is usually presented fairly sparsely (as in your photos). Nothing worse than sagging shelves.... Best of luck, Dr Retro of Dr Retro House Calls

I agree with Dreamer, it's hard to know what the best advice is here without a sketch. Does the space currently have shelving and/or drawers? Or are you starting from scratch? The two scenarios warrant very different advice. Would love to help if you can upload a quick sketch.
