The red house - any suggestions for exterior

We bought this house in the NW Scottish Highlands everyone in the area refers to it as “The red house” so we feel we need to stick to similar (we like that it stands out from the other houses). We will be re rendering so keen to hear about any suggestions for red exterior paint and any exterior covering which might help with heat loss.
The house is by the coast near a sea loch so we are exposed to high winds.
Love to hear your ideas as been mulling it over for 2 years and no idea what colour to go for.

Wow, that is a house! Have you heard of corksol? It’s a cork based render that is supposed to be good in exposed/seaside areas and for insulation. I haven’t used it myself, but might be worth some research? They do lots of colours. https://corksoluk.com/colour-range/

Lovely house. I think painting/rendering the outside of the house in a paler hue will look so much nicer. Maybe a pale off white, pink or blue? A couple of houses in my mum’s road were painted blood red which was a shame as the houses were a lovely period red brick, but a new neighbour painted over the red with a very pale cream as well as adding some railings at the front. You can see one house is still red and the newly painted one on the left right. I think it’s a real improvement.

I think it would be good if you took more pictures of the exterior - but from different angles - so it would be easier for professional builders/designers to give you the sound advice that you need. :-)

Perhaps you could have a small gate in front of the front door with a path leading through the lawn to the door like this? The deck would then become a potential seating area if it is big enough rather than the ain through was for pedestrians. Also I think the side fence would look smarter painted a dark colour . I think contemporary pickets with flat tops would look good perhaps in charcoal or black to give contrast with the house. I would also pick up a bit of the darker colour somewhere in the house to tie the two together.

You say this is a 1990's house . Its made to look like a 1930's house at present . To make it look 'modern' would take a lot of work , and IMO destroy the character of the house . Embrace what it is , tidy it and change the focus slightly , but personally I wouldn't take off the scrolls and those little posts , or even the walkway roof . Just my opinion , but if you want modern , you sell what you have and buy a modern place in grey on grey on grey , with charcoal -- there are more than enough unique points on this house that you either embrace it or you sell it .

depending on your existing roof insulation a light coloured roof would be better to avoid overheating eg Colorbond Paperbark? with brick colour for guttering and downpipes, white for fascias and eaves and cladding and roller doors same as the roof
