What colour couch should I get? Or how do I make green lounge work?
I bought this moran leather sofa second hand when I lived in an old bungalow home that had cream walls and rich stained timber floors but now it's in a new modern house, the colour palette looks wrong to me. The rug has to stay as it's an expensive functional memory foam play matt for our daughter. Our walls are a white/grey called floral white by wattyl paints. There's also the corner of our dining room feature wall that wraps around into lounge these are sanselmo reclaimed bricks. Any suggestions? :)

Recently I decided it's time for an update as the feature walls seem to be absorbing all the light and making the house very dark. Maybe a feature wall for walls around dining, or living, pick colour from your favoured painting, and use same and other colours from pictures for cushions or even some occasional furniture in the brightest colour - I saw this done beautifully in a tarted up house for display - a small seat/coffee table painted and upholstered in an orange mix, which was taken from the splashback (everything else was neutral) and also in a throw for lounge....See MoreWhat colour should I paint my new home?
Comments (15)Hi Sue, I think the wall colour (white looks like an white/off white) is lovely. It’s neutral and light, and will be the best back drop for any soft furnishings. I would suggest maybe updating some of your furniture. Your sofas look in good condition, so re-upholstering to change the colour may be a expensive option. in a bid to save some money, perhaps updating your rug to a lighter/more neutral pattern/colour (look at armadillo rugs) is a better option. Also updating your dining setting (perhaps something with chair upholstery to compliment the sofa, and even a large light coloured marble top) to be more contemporary and in keeping with your lounge suite would be the way to go. My clients often find it difficult to part with certain pieces that hold sentimental value, but often a new home requires a furniture update. In summary, I’m not convinced changing wall colour will be able to link all your furniture together. Stick with one piece that works well (ie. the sofa) and work towards updating the rest. Comments (71)I love the drama of the brick wall and it is a major design feature of the house... however, there is a LOT of exposed brick with the fireplace surround also being exposed and you have mentioned you dont like the colour. Have you thought about covering up the other walls rather than this one, to tone down the brick work? I just wonder if you hate the amount of brick and you are taking it out on this wall because that's where it is concentrated while overlooking the rest of the house? Just food for thought... more food for thought. last yearWhat is this room? Is it a play room for your child or a sitting space for adults? The lounges look old and worn, but they are probably very comfortable. If you must keep them, buy some really big throw rugs in a colour that matches the interior of your home, and drape the throw rugs over the lounges and cover them up.

If you wanted to hang onto the lounges for a little longer as they are very practical while you have a young child and dogs, I’d look at trying to find a cushion that might combine the colours perhaps? Like the pic attached?
I’d also use some conditioner on the lounge and maybe put a bit more stuffing inside the lounge seat cushions yourself. I did this to a Parker lounge and after a clean and leather saddle conditioner it didn’t look too bad. Maybe a big square (so it won’t tip over) pot with a dark green plant like a peace Lilly, cast iron plant or a tall plant could make the green lounge fit in a bit better.
