White curtains or very pale grey will keep the light levels high in your room and make a nice backdrop to your furnishings. I think patterned curtains are more casual and with the amount of windows you have, they would make a huge statement in the room. Darker curtains will reduce the light and can make the room look dingy. If you felt you don't want perfectly plain fabric, look for a slub fabric or something with some interest or texture in the weave. You could even have a self stripe which can look very elegant. I have just finished new curtains through my house and did the double track where I could and used a thermal lining that I can pull across to keep the cold out and it worked very well and is also working well now in the heat keeping the rooms cooler - in fact it is amazing some days the amount of heat trapped between the curtains and the windows and kept out of the room. In my bedroom I used a heavy sheer curtain to be able to enjoy the view of the garden while still maintaining privacy and the thermal lining gives me full privacy at night. I'm thinking this could be nice for your room when you have such a lovely outlook too and you do need something to keep the sun off your furniture and furnishings. There are also thermal roller blinds you could use instead of curtain linings, these do darken the room but they work very well. If you use the linings though, there are different weights, I used one pass in my bedroom and other rooms, and it does not darken the room very much at all. In my lounge room where I really needed heat blockout in summer, it was a bit of trial and error - I used triple pass and it does significantly darken the room to the point of totally gloomy - I really don't think I would use it again.

Hello, We sell both so I have no reason to suggest one over the other. However, yes Roller blinds are very functional and right on trend for a modern decor. He is absolutely correct. Its not just the window furnishings that create softness to a room. You could even automate them for about the same cost as buying curtains. We do a lot of homes with double roller blinds right thought. However if you like curtains there is nor reason you shouldn't have them. Its your home and you need to love been there. It really comes down to picking the right fabrics and pleat types to work with your look. Blinds are great in smaller spaces and can achieve a clean lined open look wheres curtains can soften a room and add warmth .. be ware that curtains can close a room in and make it appear smaller. It can also make furniture placement difficult. Might I suggest a mix? Sheer curtains hung from the ceiling with a roller blinds behind can look very sleek in apartments. You can have the best of both :) I would just suggest you don't go with anything too "fussy" keep the lines clean and don't go to full with your curtains. You don't want lots of fabric cluttering your room. Here's an apartment with automated rollers. Another with just rollers. Here's a space with a mix. still very modern. A child's room with a mix of rollers and Chain Drive Roman Blinds. Great for reducing daytime heat. Day time privacy and the roman Blinds is block out to help them sleep. Roman Blinds are great for kids rooms as the add softness, are practical and you can place furniture below the windows. Another example Hope this was at all helpful ;)

We have stacking and sliding doors as well in our living area. These are covered with a panel glide blind. I initially wanted curtains and we created a recess in the ceiling for them so they would drop from the ceiling. However after we moved in my husband wanted something more contemporary. We went with the blinds and they do look good (in our opinion). I have attached a photo of the windows/doors so that you may see. Just a thought with your bathroom window, we were going to install shutters in our ensuite as the window faces the street. However the glass is a frosted opaque and provides sufficient privacy and have no window coverings at all now. Our bathroom looks more open this way.

We've just installed roller blinds. We're on acreage so privacy is not an issue. However, we did put block-out blinds in the bedrooms (for sleep purposes) and sunscreen mesh fabric blinds in all other rooms. Re the latter, you can see through them whilst still retaining privacy. They stop 85% of the sun's heat and up to 99% UV. We moved to the northern rivers area of NSW earlier this year so we'll see how we fare in the summer. I suspect the see-through blinds will be down most of the time but because they're almost transparent they don't block the light.
