fill the roundabout with mass plantings. As the view on approach is focused on that fountain, height would only hide it, however it is important on a large scale to play on dimensions of height aswell as depth. So I would plant out the rear of the fountain with a semi circular arrangement of tall plantings, perhaps even trees. Something with delicate foliage like that of a birch grove, so light and perspective can still be seen through them. In from of that a dense planting of hostas wi plenty of foliage variations, height and colour. I would add another urn and topiaried buxus on your garage wall in between each door to match the one visible next to your porch. Repetition and symmetry is an important design element in formal gardens. I would consider balancing the structure with the garden, as it is sparse, and landscaping with much open space will be difficult to achieve a dramatic effect without it. I would have a builder quote to construct a post and beam addition to the front of the garage, bringing out substantial timber rafters out from the wall about a meter, with heavy posts, perhaps even pillars, this would be ideal to paint In a white trim, reminiscent of country estate homes, and provide a gorgeous arbor to plant a white hanging wisteria for example. Draping white blooms from this in spring and summer would look divine, and lighting would further enhance both the fountain garden and the new arbor. Good luck.

Timandra knows best, I believe, and has the experience to back her up. My comment is not plant-related, however. You have a front facade of door after door, and nowhere to go, except a narrow horizontal path. How about some front terraces, where you can burst out of one of those front rooms onto a sunny sitting area to have your morning coffee with a neighbor. Why not leave some doors open or change to glass, so the front terrace becomes an outdoor room, and extention of the interior space. How about a pedestrian walk out to the street, or over to the pictured tree, evergreen and plant bed, where you could have a shady terrace. Enjoy the outdoors, don't let your family become nature-deprived, with all the electronics that occupy our kids lives these days. Get them unplugged and outside - you too! You have a wonderful opportunity to achieve great things. Analyze first, then plan.

Ok, so I gather its south facing so the wall gets the northern sun. It looks like the wall is low so the neighbours can look in (& visa versa). Possibly some trelace that goes above the fence planted with a vine (there are number). This would give the two windows an outlook. Many herbs would also grow well so possibly a vertical garden with a watering system. Paving or another hard surface would be better as grass would be hard to grow. Its a great space, you could even use some French doors from the dining room with potted palms for that tropical feel (also helps with the cross flow ventilation in summer) add some bench seating maybe a fire pit for winter. Its hard without seeing the property in total but hope you can draw some inspiration from all the comments & have fun :)

You have a great home. Don't paint the fence - natural is always best with this style of home. And once you paint, you have ongoing maintenance. Look at the big trees on the LHS of the photo. These trees are above the height of your home and are helping to frame your home. I would suggest using a tall tree on the RHS behind the fence and if you have room in your rear yard, tall trees here. Then your home will be fully 'framed' from the road. Many will cringe at the suggestion of tall trees. People need to get over this attitude - we need more trees in our gardens and tall trees help with creating microclimates and assisting the hydrological cycle. People also whinge about leaves in the gutters. You will get these from the neighboring trees anyway. Cleaning gutters is part of home maintenance and shouldn't discourage people from growing trees.And there are now numerous gutter protectors that modern homes now have in place. Annuals in pots wont work if its too shady. You could use big pots - and they need to be big due to the scale of your home, and plant strappy plants like Liriope in them. There is a great variety called Emerald Cascade that you could consider. I would use dark grey pots as they are untrendy and will last indefinitely. Another great pot plant is Pittosporum tobira 'Miss Muffet'. Both would look excellent in the big grey pots.
