Old post. and note engineered stone with silica are being banned in Australia and after 30june 2024 are not permitted to be installed in Victoria at all if containing any silica. Some states have transition periods for pre-contracted work after that date

Most reconstituted/engineered stone is basically the same product in terms of wear and durability. The main difference is the colours and finishes available; with the more expensive suppliers pioneering different finishes and having faux stone finishes that look more realistic. The key factor to a good outcome is a good installer. So pick the colour you like the best as they are all pretty much the same.

Oh excellent, thank you, it looks lovely! I have been to many of the suppliers but QQ is too far away for me with a screaming baby in the car and they won't mail me samples! Once I choose a stone mason I will view them in person because I hear even with Quartz each slab can be a little different. I was thinking maybe Lexicon quarter...warmed up a bit...but I'm not sure. Thanks for the warning, I do have time on my side so I might go get some sample pots and see what actually looks ok with our lighting.

annie_booysen Quartz is a man made stone. It is made from Quartz at around 92-97% by weight of the product not the actual surface area. Quartz stone is know also as Caesarstone, MSI, Cambria, Silestone or any other brand. It is basically manufactured the same way. Other names it goes by is Estone, Man made Stone, Engineered stone etc. Hope that helps, to some it up would be like the difference between Coke and Pepsi. All made the same way, some have just different colours etc.

No idea in terms of pricing company vs company. All brands we’ve looked at so far have had three or four tiers with their pricing. So each product falls into a category eg. Essentials (cheapest), Premium (dearer), Luxury (dearer again) and Exclusive (most expensive). I wouldn’t limit yourself to a particular company, I’d be looking at the ones you like best and seeing what category they fall in. Have several options so you can get several quotes.

Hi Helen, if you are to compare these products, their quality (which are both very good) is much the same, they just produce some different styles / paterns/ colours and textures, that are unique to their own brand. Hope this helps, Malcolm.

I'd choose Quantum over the others any day. Chinese made products known to be a cheaper/weaker material with multiple issues. I would agree that the choice of stonemason and installer is supper important.
