navy in a textured fabric

I do have a textured navy velvet swatch, but its not as nice a texture or as vintage-look as the brown velvet. I will keep looking for another one in navy!

I had a chair covered in what was an antique brown velvet years ago, it is lovely and doesn't have the same plushness as normal velvet. Have you considered using a printed fabric as all of your chairs are block colours

The brown velvet I have as an option is Warwick 'Lovely' in Cinnamon - its not as thick and plush as the plain velvets and has a beautiful worn/pulled pattern, its my favourite for appearance but unfortunately they do not have a navy in this range and I fear the brown will be too heavy next to the brown table. I have some swatches of patterned fabrics, but none that go well with the colour scheme I already have (the Ianthe cushion matches two prints I have as well so these form my colour pallete from which to select from). Id love to upholster them in the Ianthe fabric but it is out of my price range and very hard to find unfortunately!

Something navy as the main colour with either a print or nice texture/feel. The quality of the material is the most important here so depends on your options in price range

Julies examples are lovely and would work with your colour scheme, you could even look at some Tribal print fabric

and the textured or patterned chair is less likely to show wear and spills

You have a lovely Eclectic style, Ethnic/Tribal fabrics are perfect with this style. check out some of the large Australian fabric companies and Ikea

Or you could just go with a simple Linen look as per my mock up, you can use a spray on fabric protector.

Thanks Everyone, will look into a patterned fabric as well before I decide - but as the original part of the house is early 1900's with deco/nouveau ceilings I am trying to avoid anything too Hamptons or coastal style, which is why I love the Ianthe fabric as it brings other colours in with the blue/white and has an art nouveau pattern which links to the original parts of the house. And I have too many light walls and a white trimmings to have a light or neutral fabric, it definately needs to be a deep rich colour or will be too washed out. Luckily I have access to all the fabric companies ranges so lots to choose from! I will post a final photo of them when they are done

Definitely patterned but maybe just in 2 colours to avoid too busy. Also think off how it will hide sticky kids dining fingers.

On my Featherson’70’s Chair, I have used Warwick Flowerbomb velvet, comes in beautiful colours. I choose the red to lift my dark bedroom. It certainly shows the chair off.

Depends on whether you want the chairs to be a feature and stand out or fade into background.

Navy will sit well with your other blue accents, however they won’t stand out. A patterned fabric as suggested should make the chairs sing.

Definately Navy. You can add other interest with cushions and throws which you can change as you wish, which is cheaper to do. I have a navy couch which I have had for years and it fits with so many other items, throw, cushions, eastern rug, timber furniture, other leather couch etc.

It's a personal choice but as there are already other navy chairs the new navy won't match so a patterned fabric would work better, with no need for cushions and throws

The chair frames are not back from the polishers yet, so I still have time to decide before they go off to the upholsterer. Since posting this though I have ordered a few more swatches, some in large patterns / small patterns / textured plains. I am waiting for two more to arrive but I am leaning more and more towards a navy or dark blue in a textured plain finish. I agree with Christine who commented that you can always add colour and pattern with the cushions and accessories!

Hi again everyone and thanks again for all your suggestions re my chairs. So to update....7 months later I finally have my chairs back (between the polisher and the upholsterer it took much longer than anticipated). I ended up choosing a textured blue velvet, not a navy but a mottled royal blue similar to my little painted bookshelf. Im glad I did as the frames turned out darker and much more orange tinted than I wanted so thankfully the blue fabric tones the orange down somewhat (the polisher was supposed to do a test patch first for us to see...but annoyingly didnt and just went ahead and finished them before we'd confirmed the timber colour was okay to proceed with)

Bur overall Im pleased with the result as I didnt want to be TOO safe and thankfully the textured fabric does not look like a solid plain colour - I ended up ruling out any patterned fabric as although I did get some patterned fabric samples I felt they just didnt really work with the rest of the patterns or decor in this area, or do justice to the chairs, and I find the blue chairs with the blue cabinet create an interesting little colourful 'nook' (especially when teamed with my old persian rug) in an otherwise very neutral coloured, large airy space that compliments and brings together the splashes of blue and the similar coloured full-room sized persian rug in the opposite part of this open plan living/dining room. Also my vintage Liberty fabric cushions which I was adamant on using compliment the colour perfectly, so thats a win!
