By obstacles I meant the door and short wall. Can you dimension that please. Is there a dining table elsewhere?

I would consider moving the sink to under the window on the "L" near the stove. This will mean that your triangle of sink, stove and fridge would work better. You could then have a "clean" island for prep space

Here is a house plan. I have shaded the area we have to play with in Orange. I have also attached a photo of our current kitchen which is a mess and falling apart. I want to start from scratch.

Kaye, the sink is currently under the window near the stove. We were going to leave it there to save money to move the plumbing but it is nearly 4 metres to carry all the food I have chopped and prepped over to the stove or the utensils etc over to the sink. We moved the sink to the island bench thinking that it would free up some bench space for chopping etc next to the stove. Not sure which way I prefer....

Sorry, I have just remeasured the space with the island bench. The small load bearing wall is 1 metre, the room is 4 metres.

Does the sliding door exist or is it just a window currently? I think by changing some doors you will get better layout and it will be worth the small extra cost. I’ll let okl or siriuskey draw up a scale plan and start exploring options. ,,

But looking at your kitchen I would ask you to remeasure. The door to deck looks like it is on a wall only around 1.8m long? Not 3 m

I see the 3 metre as the whole room width , not the length of the wall with door to deck.

Please give the measurement of the wall with door to deck.

Keeping the above design, I would install a small sink in the corner of your prep space near the stove. It appears you don’t have enough storage at the moment. In real terms of extra cupboard space, would your new design as above, increase your storage. Also the fridges in your photo, will both be required.? You have not allowed space for both in your design.

You need to draw your sketch to scale. This will give you a better idea of what can fit. At the moment the design is distorted by not being to scale. For instance, the island is less than 3 metres long, going by the room length shown. So therefore you will have minimal room for a seating area where positioned and a sink and prep space.

Thank you for all your suggestions. We have a solid brick house so we're not keen on blocking up door ways or windows and creating new ones. We also have floor boards so this would mean having to get the floor boards worked on for holes where previous solid bricks walls were. There are some great suggestions so will take these all on board. Thanks!

Ok. For tables sitting space you need 600mm per chair.
