We recently made over a bathroom with dated features & a claw foot bath. See before & after pics. The bath was almond beige with brass feet. Painted it Dulux Ticking on the outside & used Rustoleum Tub & Tile on the inside. Bit of a process but we're very happy with the result. We were able to take the bath out of the room to paint so this made it easier. Left it to "cure" for quite a while before reinstalling & using. Sprayed the feet with chrome paint. The cabinet in after pic is the same cab as before, but with laminate benchtop removed & new wooden top & sides, benchtop basin, new tap. Treated the benchtop with 5 coats of marine grade polyurethane & painted the cabinet drawer fronts & doors with same paint as the bath (oil based). Floor retiled (over existing tile), double hung window removed and replaced with a fixed frame & frosted glass. Most expensive part was the new glass shower screen. My advice is to take the time to do correct prep & leave surfaces to harden thoroughly before using. With the bath I never run the hot tap first into the bath ie. warm water first then hot & only clean with detergent & a soft cloth, don't use any abrasive or harsh cleaners.

With most old houses walls and floors are not straight and perfect, however wall tiles can go some way concealing this. I don't know if a reputable tradesperson will fix glass panels to old tiles and be happy to guarantee the job. Seems like an ideal opportunity for mould growth between the old tiles and the new glass if any shower water gets an opportunity to seep around the edges or joints of the glass. I think you may be surprised just how much this type of glass costs to install, and you would probably be better off doing the job properly with new tiles and a proper waterproof membrane as required by the building regulations (which your old shower recess doesn't have). In the future your potential new buyers will probably appreciate a freshly renovated bathroom that conforms with the current building regulations (with standard tiling) rather than a glass panel over mould in a bathromm that doesn't comply with the regulations. Hi squirrel30. I ended up, on a professional's advice, having the whole bathroom stripped and redone. It actually worked out cheaper than any of the seemingly more innovative solutions. It seemed a shame to discard a lot of stuff that was in good order, but to get the result we wanted it proved the best approach and I'm delighted with the result. We had the floor pulled up and replaced with 600 x 600 textured grey tiles and 900 wide tiles in the shower with a grate at the end so in a very, very large shower we have only 3 grout lines and they are dark grey. We used slab tiles on the walls in the shower with dark grey grouting and 600 x 600 tiles elsewhere. Again resulting in very few grout lines, and no glass at all! I'm still interested to know more about microcement but I can't get anyone to answer inquiries. I've responded to a dozen or so ads but nobody has ever bothered to contact me. Not sure I would trust a supplier who is that disinterested in potential customers!!

You can seal grout or use epoxy (goggle it) grout. Both make it substantially easy to keep the splashback area looking clean. Yes you can get glass to cover the tiles but most glass will have a slight tint, usually green, whixhay not be the look you’re after.
