Mid Century Modern second level

We need to replace the roof on our mid-century modern single-story house so I'm considering going up a level. The second level will be inset and mimic the below level with a low skillion roof, long eaves and ceiling-height windows.
My first question is what type of material should I use for the second level to match the white brick below? Considering something flat to render in white or white Axon cladding with a wide vertical line. The facia will be black and eaves will be cedar panels underneath to match the ground level.
My second question is should the second level feature the under eave beams to keep that mid-century modern look?
And Any advice is welcome.
