Wow I too have the same glass above my doors. Mine are all internal swing doors therefore I don't have your delema. I'm in the middle of renovations and mine are staying. My walls will be dark and modern with all the trim white with the original character and it looks great. With your wall, it's a lot to deal with therefore would suggest replacing the slider with a glass door with timber trim, keep your walls light modern and bright and paint your trim dark (any colour you favour) here is my example to give you an idea of what I'm talking about hopefully you can see the value here is a snippet of my renovation good luck....hope my idea gives you plenty of ideas

Yes, there are some companies that strip paint back using an acid bath. You need to remove the door, remove all of the door hardware, hinges, knobs, etc, and take it to their factory where they dip each timber door into an acid bath. A standard door to replace what was here would cost around $30 unpainted from Bunnings & the shaker doors start around $200 each.... the old doors have gone they had so many layers of enamel it would have been arduous and expensive to get a good finish.some of them were beyond repair so for continuity we have chosen to replace them all. Im more concerned about it looking too much and having wasted money than actually being concerned about the cost.
