Renovation: skirting boards and cornices?
Comments (18)I have a conventional concave cornice and I get plenty of cobwebs in the 10mm step out from the wall plaster (but not so much the step out from the ceiling plaster, or maybe it doesn't show so much there). If you are replacing the ceiling I would go with a shadowline rather than square-set which will show every wobble in your plaster or paint. I don't think it is feasible to install a shadowline into an existing ceiling (which will usually have a ragged edge under the existing cornice) but I could be wrong......See MoreSKIRTING BOARDS / BASEBOARDS
Comments (4)The gaps shown look no more than 5mm thick mostly, so I would address the floor, as preparing this will be the only way to get a worthwhile result. A self leveling compound poured over the slab will rectify the surface and fill part of this gap, with the flooring p,plank doing the rest. Or opt to have a foam underlay put down prior to the board to also provide an additional 2mm. You can always install quad around the perimeter to conceal this gap, which most fooring installers allow for flex within the boards regardless. Temperature change will mean they will expand and contract, and this tolerance is Important so they don't jar and pop out. Some gap is actually required. I would go with the first option to get the best result....See MoreWidth of arcs to suit skirting boards?
Comments (0)Hi guys need your help with choosing the right width of architraves to match the skirting boards for our house. The look we are trying to achieve is contemporary industrial. I seen a door inspo pic and like the clean lines from a square edge slim profile skirting boards. We have chosen the 9.2cm height with 11mm thickness. Now for the arcs I’m actually torn. I wanted the 4.2cm arcs to go around the door as we don’t want the door to look to chunky. But everywhere I read it says good balance is about 6.7cm width against a 9.2cm skirting board. I came to Bunnings to have a look at it and put both widths to get an idea. Which do you guys think would work better?...See MoreCost to install skirting boards
Comments (6)Thanks so much for the comments. It’s literally cutting & installing the skirting boards only (no architraves) and we are providing the boards already painted (5.4m lengths). It will be a clear run as it‘ll be right after the new floors are laid so no furniture around at all. Quite a lot of angle cuts though. Still reasonable? I suppose it comes down to peace of mind on a quality job or take a punt on a handyman (unfortunately don’t know any so would have to take a chance). Oh dear, wish the budget wasn’t so tight otherwise I wouldn’t hesitate....See More- last year
