Need help decorating the strangest-shaped living room ever
Comments (17)I think the problem is actually not so much the shape of the room but the fact that at the "pitch of the roof" part you have a large full length window and fireplace. Essentially, because of all this there is no wall to put your back against or place furniture against. My rectangular room has similar issues with a corner window facing the fireplace. We just put the kids toys there on the floor and low kid size stuff like a toy box. You can't put any large pieces there. So, I say, start by completely ignore the top triangle of the room. Its essentially dead or unusable space, but will add to the feelings of space and light in the room. Arrange your large furniture pieces in the bottom square portion, around a large square rug perhaps that would define the space. It might feel better that way. Then arrange your other bits around that. I think if you try to work the square it will be way easier to organise the room. Emphasising a square layout will feel more comfortable. Plants in that light bright corner was a good suggestion, they soften the angles. Hope that helps!...See MoreDecorator Help To Finish Off Living Room
Comments (13)Hi Steve, you should be able to find a round or oval coffee table with enough space for nibbles and drinks if you also include one or two side tables. I'd probably look at two side tables to give you the extra landing space you're after, one between the two lounges and another next to the lounge closest to the hall/walkway area. But if that doesn't look quite right they are can be easily moved into another position. Keep the permanent decor items on the coffee table to a minimum with a view to moving them to the buffet when entertaining if need be as you fill the table with nibbles and drinks and perhaps something with a small footprint like a bud vase to add height to your nibbles tray(s) display. And yes, nested tables could work really well. Enjoy :)...See MoreNeed help with living room decor please
Comments (4)Hi Kathy, you have created a lovely, luxurious looking, neutral space that will stand the test of time well. As to artwork, that's always such a personal choice, but as you love natural elements suggest you might explore our signature treescape collection and see if anything there resonates. As all the photos posted above show, 'greenery' works really well as an accent colour. This piece, for example, would tie in the wrought iron of your dining suite and coffee table whilst introducing an accent colour to draw the eye....See MoreLiving Room Decor Suggestions - Can You Help?
Comments (6)Add some colour to the room, you could use floor boards to warm up the space, with a dog, the carpet will soak in the dog smell maybe. Get a new lounge set, getting a modern couch will definitely change up the space. Leather to wipe off all the dog hair. Have curtains as those blinds are hard and a chore to clean. Just change the hardware to black railing. Instead of hanging the curtain directly on the rod use peg rings. These are cheap. Two tone the wall, Put Moulding down the bottom and make that white and add a colour or wallpaper above the wall moulding. Like a geometric pattern. Change the light fittings Put in some chairs singular, that doesn't come from the couch family tree but still has the lines and weight of the couch. Add a rug, you can get ones where you can just hose them off to clean in case dog does a mess inside the house on the rug. Add plants Add throw Coffee table Oval maybe. Or two in one Coffee table and footstool....See MorePARZ Designs
