new kitchen
Comments (9)I don't think it would be because of the marbling in the floors. However, look at cherry cabinets. I've seen that combo together and it gives a very rich look. For something more contemporary, a light maple is pretty with those floors....See MoreKitchen help!
Comments (11)Hi Jacqui no worries. you are correct with regards to the kitchen being number one place to be, it is the hub ,everyone gathers around whether you are cooking a meal or preparing coffee- so it has to present well. it also has to function with good accessibility for the users, carrying a hot cup of tea from one end of a galley kitchen past a teenager flinging open a fridge door followed by the pantry can be quite a trick. another area which needs attention is that the kitchen must be robust, don't neglect spending money on good fittings ie draw runners which can take the weight. trying to think thru a project whether big or small can be quite daunting but the same factors affect the outcome as mentioned previous. Scope or what is to be included , how do you demonstrate your wishes kitchen designer, builder or cabinet maker define needs as opposed to wants and be clear on your objectives budget or cost, factor in the cost of fittings time , how will this affect the inhabitants does it need to be done quickly , can you live with no benchtop for a week or a functional kitchen for a month. just a few things to think about when contemplating your next reno. most of all enjoy the experience - you will have something to talk about when next standing in your kitchen contemplating the good old times.. The benchtop which had a deep gouge, the cupboard door which hung off a broken hinge.. That unsightly orange laminate the brown tiles. take care Garreth...See MoreTiles vs Splashback for Shower? Comments (29)Sorry to keep you waiting. Busy as crazy doing another bathroom in the house. Hopefully the last for a while. Yes it is paint behind the vanity. After much deliberation I went ahead and painted it. It is easily wiped down for any accidental splash back but unless your bathing in your washbasin there’s hardly ever any The floor tiles, and in fact all the tiles are from Moorabbin Tiles. Polished porcelain. Thank you for your kind feedback...See MoreCaesarstone alternatives for the kitchen and bathroom?
Comments (22)Hi Alex and Christie, I am installing a kitchen this week using a product I have used before and that I really like. It's Mirostone - a 100% acrylic product which feels and looks just like the reconstituted stone - it even feels cold like stone - yet it's much cheaper than any reconstituted stone I have found. Being 100% acrylic it's not porous which also means it's very hygienic. It's resilient to marks and staining so will be good for rolling out pastry dough. However, it should be treated with care like any benchtop and a chopping board or hot surface board used when required. Marks and stains can be easily sand-papered away - that's right, sandpaper - but because the stone colour goes through to the base, you aren't left with a discoloured patch. It only comes in 7 colours from white to grey, but it's a really nice product. I believe it is available Australia-wide from the distributors in Adelaide (where I am based). Good luck. Cheers, Penelope...See MoreJudyG Designs
