Comments (38)Bravo to all these amazing creative minds. I hate wasting stuff that still has life in it. By the way, though I have read that some pallets are treated with a fumigant which is toxic. Generally, make sure pallets are stamped with “HT”, which means they haven’t been exposed to chemicals (at least not in the treating process.) Avoid unmarked pallets or those with “MB” for methyl bromide. Well, if anyone wants some really nice, bargain 2nd hand windows we just pulled out of our 12 y-o house to make way for a sliding door, and you live around Melbourne Australia, please check them out here: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/112070272414?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1586.l2649...See MoreKitchen/dining facelift for selling HELP
Comments (31)e just cleaned a house for a deceased estate - a small clinker brick one of a pair on a busy road - a recluse who'd lived on his own for 35 years....you can imagine! The family had to pull out the kitchen totally and install a new toilet....!! Four skips later...you get the idea. After the muck was gone and the place vacuumed and cleaned as much as possible it looked - well it looked what it was, a renovators' opportunity (good spaces and excellent flow, with a tiny yard and off street parking. A tram stop at the door. The family wanted venetians cleaned, walls washed and so on - they were making the mistake of thinking it was their own house, not, to be harsh perhaps, of selling an asset which will be someone else's opportunity whether it's to gut and renovate, or demolish and rebuild. So similarly to your mum's, where do you start and finish? As others have said, declutter (which you will have to do at some stage anyway) clean as best you can, and leave the opportunity for others to make their mark. And you know what - despite spending money on it, you'll probably not make a scrap of difference to the sale price. Best of luck...See MoreUnregistered painter paid. How do I get money back?
Comments (61)I really feel for you. I had a similar experience when a neighbour recommended someone she knew who was 'really good'! He was extremely lazy and, apparently, suffering from depression and he had split up with his girlfriend! He did a dreadful job which took a week - because he was too depressed to work on some days - he only did about half the job and I wasn't impressed. It has ruined my relationship with my neighbour because she knew him to be really good. She won't even come into my place - I assume she doesn't want to see the mess he created! To top it all off (I had paid him cash - fortunately only half of what he 'wanted' (not 'earned') so he wouldn't be paying tax on it )- I didn't get a receipt. He also took my house keys so I had to have the locks replaced. Such a mess and then, I had some tradies through a couple of weeks later for an unrelated job and they asked me when I was getting the place painted? When I told them it had just been done, they really didn't know where to look. I seem to constantly get ripped off, so I'm not getting much done any more - too expensive and depressing....See MoreSmall garden design ideas needed please
Comments (33)Strong geometry, cool blue and glass and a plain lawn background. to fill the diamond with bush is going to cancel out its strength. But something different to the slightly sterile design compilation … if the finance is there, get two or three massive raw rock slabs and one spectacular architectural tree. resist going vertical .. layer them horizontally to slightly overlap or break the hard lines of the diamond, but not to obscure it. Then choose you vertical with a sculptural tree. There are vertical cherry trees with spectacular autumn colour which would contrast with the rocks (texturally), and be floaty like the water in the pool…. whatever the tree, lift the foliage up from the soil level, and underplant with jut one kind of tight low ground cover, even moss (if your climate can support) or ground hugging juniper that you can train inside the diamond. This combination of elements is rich for the eye, softens the geometry, and adds interest which is lacking right now. The place for shrubs and grasses and palms is to border the lawn....See Morejdgail
