2012 couch mistake-help me get it right!

At the end of 2012 I made a large mistake--I bought really comfortable (or thought so at the time) cream upholstered couches (96 inch and 60 inch love seat). I've always dreamed of having white-ish couches, and knew they would look great in our living room. I was right! They did look nice and served a pretty contrast to two queen anne leather recliners. Both the couches and recliners have nailhead, which I am attracted to.
Problem: my husband and I now sit on the floor or in the recliners due to the couches giving us terrible neck and back pain. They are down couches with 4 large white pillows, to serve as "cushions" and then 5 large down throw pillows. We sink back so far and get no support.
I need to make this right. I have one more shot at a couch/love seat purchase before my husband divorces me! Here is what I'm looking for:
1) Both for under or around $4000
2) Slipcovered-we have a mobile sweet bundle of body excretions and drool.
3) Something that doesn't put us in a back/neck surgeons office prematurely. Need it to be supportive but not too tight or stiff. We enjoy napping and hanging out in the living room. Something comfy enough, but also supportive.
4) Love the way the one cushion couches look, but not sure I like what I've read re: wear and tear.
5) Finally, my style is slightly dressy or fussy. Therefore, I think the Pottery Barn comfort couches might be too frumpy. Not having to constantly fluff/redo the cushions and pillows would be nice.
For lack of any other available pictures, please excuse my baby (although cute!) and husband. I needed a picture that had my couch in it.
PS: I hate the rug, too!!! I got it thinking it was going to be a lot more neutral gray than pictured. Recommendations for a decent (and again, can't be expensive or the whole divorce thing..haha) rug that is more neutral. Thought Moroccan rug might be a fun contrast to the other formal aspects of the room. WRONG.

Comments (12)I would be inclined to go with an unobtrusive light since it's the living room and anything too dramatic or a hanging pendant may interfere with your peripheral vision (or otherwise be an annoyance) when you're watching TV, etc. Also, being so near the sliding door, the wind may cause a hanging pendant to swing quite a bit which will cause the lighting to be constantly shifting and changing which I would personally find annoying. I'd go with something simple and subtle, but look at getting a tall standing lamp for the corner near the sofa (or possibly at the other end of the floating TV cabinet). In terms of warming up the apartment, I think you need something on the bare walls. A smaller picture above the floating TV cabinet will help to take the focus off your TV. A larger art work behind the sofa will also help to add some colour and personality, especially if it picks up some hues from your sofa. If you don't like the little Buddha statue, I would look at adding one or two other items that you do like (perhaps picking up colours from the wall art) and making a little vignette. A couple of colourful cushions and a storage solution for the wires, games console, etc on the floor would also help to bring everything together. Comments (54)I agree about the idea of putting roller blinds on your door , matching the colours of the others must mention about Annie Sloan paint : it is a chalk paint and you can apply it on any wood surface with at having to use primer, what " seals" the pain is the Annie Sloan wax you apply afterwards. You can Buy Annie Sloan on line , i use Annie Sloan a lot.it is expensive if you want the legs painted black to be smooth, just paint and wax , but one coat of Annie Sloan does not give a good coverage. It you want it " distressed" slightly, then just sand a few it on the edges afterwards, before the waxing With a slight " distressed" leg look, but you would need to give the top of the table a light sanding to " rough it up" on the edges if you want a good solid, coverage, Annie Sloan is not the right choice have a look on eBay, I have just bought some cages light to fit near my table outside ( I was just playing around with them yesterday before the electrician comes toda), they were only like $46 each...See MoreHelp! Comments (5)From what you have said, I think smaller separate pieces such as couch and chair(s) rather than a large sectional is likely to work better in the space and still allow for traffic flow. However, if you still have lots to do then don't rush to make large purchases. In the meantime, if your current sectional looks better pulled away from the wall a bit, then perhaps you could rotate the side table so that the long side runs parallel with the sofa arm instead of the wall. Would that help to stop it blocking the doorway and resolve the 'not quite right' placement?...See More
