@DmStan,

Yes too true, never looked at it like that as we have a seperate loo from the main bathroom but we do actuallly have a loo in our en suite as I call it, althought it isn't actually a traditional en suite off the master as such, we have an indoor pool and with the limited space available, we built a smallish bathroom with loo and we effectively end up with two bathrooms which of course is always a bonus and often considered the norm nowadays.

I've attached a pic and directly on the oposite side of the loo is the shower. The room is only 1.5wide x 3m long

I love #1, if you were to tell me that no one but the person who does the laundry in that house, ever goes up those stairs, that would be heaven to me. Having not had, but having always wanted, a laundry where no one else needs to access it. All the homes I have lived in, have been the typical basic Australian design with the back door being placed in the small laundry, where the family constantly comes in and out over your sorted piles of clothes, sorted into loads, ready for washing. Even now, that there is only my husband and myself, I have designed the laundry for our new home, so that he does not have to come into that room at all. It has it's own door to the outside, separate to the front and back door. It will be my haven. He has been thought of in the design also with his big shed, for all his tools and "big boys toys", with it's own bathroom and kitchenette, for showering after mowing or gardening and a cupper when he so desires it! For those not yet at our time in life, you will find that you each NEED your OWN space, when you are both retired!

@Kat,

Fortunately our new home was built without taking children into account as they are all grown and in their own homes. We live in the country and are farmers, so when I designed our laundry, I did so expressly to have access for hubby there so he could wash his farm & mechanic filthy hands in the laundry trough as otherwise he would have been heading for the bathroom, God forbid ha-ha

I was desperate to convince hubby to have a wash area outside the laundry door where the hot water service is and whilst I do have hot and cold taps fitted there and could divert the plumbing, he's not in favour of building in a small wash basin but I think one day I might get my way!!

As for his big boys toys as you call them, we have all manner of tractors and other farm machinery etc.. in a big 20m x 60m shed but we never got to build in a toilet and bathroom, finances just didn't allow for it but it would have been great to have had it, so well done to you to have been able to do it, I'm envious ha-ha
