Dont worry about the fig, I have heaps in small pots inside and out and the plant will only grow to the size you pick for your pot. Give them a trim or shape and they will be 20yrs or more till they crack their pot if you have a large pot outside. I had a fig i carried from place to place and cold states to hot climates and dumped in a dark or light lounge room. It never missed a beat!

Don't place fig trees too close to air conditioning units indoors. The cold & warm air fluctuations will cause it to drop leaves & thin out.

My fig is only 2mtrs from my AC albeit not in the line of fire, it's on the same wall but we heat the area every night for a few hours then switch it off and it couldn't look better but I did have another indoor plant that was in the line of fire and it was struggling with the warm breeze so I have shifted it, so im my situation it was more contact than the room temperature fluctuations.
