DIY Project: Driftwood Photo Wall-Hanging
Show off your creative side and craft a unique photo wall-hanging for your home
With the ease and convenience of digital photography, more and more of us are now able to take truly beautiful family photos and happy snaps with point-and-shoot cameras, mobile phones and even tablets. The problem is, that’s often where all of these photos stay rather than being printed out and enjoyed. If you’d like to change that and create a unique and personalised wall decoration for your home, this project is for you. Here’s a fun way to get your favourite photos off your digital devices and onto your walls.
What you’ll need:
- Printed photos
- Fishing line
- Scissors
- Driftwood
- Wooden beads
- Mini pegs
- Leather cord for hanging
- Hot glue gun
Step 1: Layout
First, select and print out a collection of your favourite happy snaps, then lay them all out in two columns with a small gap between each. Measure the length with fishing line and cut, with a 10-centimetre allowance on either end to allow you to attach the driftwood at the top and the wooden beads at the bottom. You can make your wall-hanging as wide as you like with a longer piece of driftwood and multiple photo lines.

Step 2: Tie the line
Tie the ends of your two fishing line lengths to either end of the piece of driftwood. You can score the wood with a blade to create a little notch for the line to sit in.

Step 3: Add some weight
Tie a wooden bead to the end of each photo line to act as weights, which will keep the photos hanging straight. You can also cut a tiny notch in wooden balls for the line to sit in if you don’t have beads that have been drilled through, or if you want to wrap the line around the outside for added security.

Step 4: Peg on the pics
Using mini pegs, clip the images onto the fishing line, alternating the directions (left and right) that they face in. This will also help the images sit flush against the wall at the end.

Step 5: Attach the leather hanger
Tie the leather cord on both sides of the driftwood, outside of the fishing line knots to stop them from slipping off the ends.

Step 6: Glue in place
To further ensure that the leather and fishing line knots won’t move, add a dab of glue from a hot glue gun to the underside of the knots on the driftwood, keeping the glue out of sight.

Step 7: Hang up
Done! How easy is that? Now all you need do is to hang your project anywhere on a blank wall that begs for some detail.
