@sharnileekim There's no need to panic. Each of the experts quoted here is hyperlinked to their profile on Houzz so you can click on that link and get their contact details. Alternatively you can type 'sustainable kitchens' into the search bar and select 'find a pro' from the options that will pop up, then put in your postcode to see if there are professionals with this expertise near you. Or, you can go back to the kitchen makers you've engaged and ask about their practices and materials and explain you'd like to integrate more sustainable features into your new kitchen. This may sound like a big job now, but it's worth it and should be able to be accommodated to some degree. Best of luck, Vanessa (editor)

I will like to keep these points in mind over the coming year as we prepare to renovate our kitchen. Having completed some renovations over the years, I would like to understand what the "tip" does with the wood we send there. In most cases old kitchens are thrown in the "skip".

I will need to read up on how I can recycle some of the waste from the renovation we plan.

@Storewall AUSTRALIA if materials are separated st source the timber should be mulched but if not separated it may all go into landfill. We did not allow a flip bin on our site. I had bins for each type of material. I couldn’t believe how hard it was to get the tradies to separate even their lunch waste ( plastic etc). Clearly they weren’t erect long much at home. I then took each bin to the recycling areas at the tip. Although we asked in our contract for materials to be recycled, next time I will have a penalty against that requirement for non compliance.
