Chicago Roof Deck & Garden
Design ideas for a small eclectic rooftop deck in Chicago with a container garden and a pergola.
Archadeck of Birmingham
This Birmingham deck was built using TimberTech Tropicals composite decking in Amazon Mist and a striking deck railing system with an urban retro feel. The railings are from TimberTech’s Evolutions Rail Contemporary line. The homeowners selected black low-maintenance posts and rail caps with see-through stainless steel cable infill instead of the traditional balusters or pickets. Looking through the railings, the cables are barely visible, so anyone on the deck has an unobstructed view of the yard and surrounding foliage.

The clients chose cow panel railing with composite inserts to match the railing used on their existing fence. We love this railing because it doesn’t obstruct the view at all—especially compared to the wooden balusters on their old deck. An additional deck feature you won’t be able to see until the sun sets is the perimeter deck lighting we installed.

The deck stairs lead down to an elegant patio featuring one area for outdoor grilling and another for a marvelous round fire pit and circular seating wall.
Archadeck of Central Connecticut
This fabulous deck in West Hartford, CT, was built using Fiberon composite decking from the Horizon line in a beautiful color called Castle gray. With composite decking, they will no longer need to worry about annual maintenance such as sanding, staining or sealing to keep the deck boards looking great. The railings that frame the deck and staircase feature white Deckorators aluminum balusters. These thinner balusters, or spindles as they are sometimes called, allow greater visibility than the wider ones used on most decks in the past. The new railings are built with cedar stained gray to match the Fiberon deck boards.

This garden takes advantage of the chimney tops and attics spaces of the urban landscape of the Back Bay- we refer to it as "Mary-Poppinsville". Split in to two areas- seating and dinning/cooking. shrubs, perennials, annuals, and edibles including: herbs, tomatoes, The client is a gourmet chef and uses the foods in his cooking. With limited space, the most popular edible plants that clients ask for are tomatoes and herbs because the herbs can be used in daily cooking and theres nothing to compare to the homegrown tomato. Where space is generous, we also plant blueberries strawberries, raspberries, lettuces, peppers.
