Source : Ancient Surfaces Product : Antique Stone Kitchen Hood & Stone Flooring. Phone#: (212) 461-0245 Email: Sales@ancientsurfaces.com Website: www.AncientSurfaces.com For the past few years the trend in kitchen decor has been to completely remodel your entire kitchen in stainless steel. Stainless steel counter-tops and appliances, back-splashes even stainless steel cookware and utensils. Some kitchens are so loaded with stainless that you feel like you're walking into one of those big walk-in coolers like you see in a restaurant or a sterile operating room. They're cold and so... uninviting. Who wants to spend time in a room that reminds you of the frozen isle of a supermarket? One of the basic concepts of interior design focuses on using natural elements in your home. Things like woods and green plants and soft fabrics make your home feel more warm and welcoming. In most homes the kitchen is where everyone congregates whether it's for family mealtimes or entertaining. Get rid of that stainless steel and add some warmth to your kitchen with one of our antique stone kitchen hoods that were at first especially deep antique fireplaces retrofitted to accommodate a fully functional metal vent inside of them.

The new updated kitchen has a transitional look. It boasts plenty of counter space for prepping meals and high end appliances, including two ovens (steam and regular) and an induction cooktop. The island is massive with plenty of seating for a quick meal, and drawers for storage giving it the look of a hutch.

For this showhouse, Celene chose the Desert Oak Laminate in the Herringbone style (it is also available in a matching straight plank). This floor runs from the front door through the hallway, into the open plan kitchen / dining / living space. For the kitchen splashback, the customer chose the Lume Green [6x24] porcelain tile laid in a herirngbone style.

Challenge: Redesign the kitchen area for the original owner who built this home in the early 1970’s. Our design challenge was to create a completely new space that was functional, beautiful and much more open. The original kitchen, storage and utility spaces were outdated and very chopped up with a mechanical closet placed in the middle of the space located directly in front of the only large window in the room. We relocated the mechanical closet and the utility room to the back of the space with a Butler’s Pantry separating the two. The original large window is now revealed with a new lowered eating bar and a second island centered on it, featuring a dramatic linear light fixture above. We enlarged the window over the main kitchen sink for more light and created a new window to the right of the sink with a view towards the pool. The main cooking area of the kitchen features a large island with elevated walnut seating bar and 36” gas cooktop. A full 36” Built-in Refrigerator is located in the Kitchen with an additional Sub-Zero Refrigerator and Freezer located in the Butler’s Pantry. Result: Client’s Dream Kitchen Realized. A complete makeover of a tired 1990s mahogany kitchen in a stately Greenwich back country manor. We couldn't change the windows in this project due to exterior restrictions but the fix was clear. We transformed the entire space of the kitchen and adjoining grand family room space by removing the dark cabinetry and painting over all the mahogany millwork in the entire space. The adjoining family walls with a trapezoidal vaulted ceiling needed some definition to ground the room. We added painted paneled walls 2/3rds of the way up to entire family room perimeter and reworked the entire fireplace wall with new surround, new stone and custom cabinetry around it with room for an 85" TV. The end wall in the family room had floor to ceiling gorgeous windows and Millowrk details. Once everything installed, painted and furnished the entire space became connected and cohesive as the central living area in the home.

An open and airy kitchen remodel that invited the kitchen to be a part of the living space beyond its original enclosing walls. This spacious design features all new shaker style cabinets finished in the darker grey color, “Thunder”. Timeless and sturdy Quartz countertops, with a look that mimics carrara marble, were chosen, along with the porcelain 3x6 tile around the cabinetry, also mimicking carrara marble. The stylish cabinetry features two pull out cabinet inserts, one containing an elongated shelf for spices and such, the other with room for cooking utensils and a knife block, plus custom open shelving surrounding the window location. The sink was replaced, and relocated from under the window facing outside, to become the apron front, stainless steel sink, located inside the island between the living area and the kitchen, tying the two rooms together. In order to expand and open the kitchen, the two interior bearing walls were removed and replaced with a single flush mount beam, new posts and larger footings for weight support.

The clients came to me with a full renovation where they were creating a large open space for the kitchen, living and dining. The main aspiration was to create a kitchen that was visually interesting, using full availability of the space, but still in keeping with the client’s own personality and flair. Their kitchen needed to be a work of art and still have a comfortable feel for family living. The most important aspect was that my clients are family orientated they spend much of their free time in their home and enjoy entertaining. So it was also important to have a place that guests can sit around to chat during food preparation and for the children to do homework. Another important aspect was creating a kitchen that is visually interesting which is achieved by the use of clean linear lines, White hi gloss surfaces with Zebrano Veneer added for interest. The kitchen was positioned with the island facing the main outdoor area to view the homes distinctive sea views but it is also perpendicular with a smaller more intimate outdoor area where the barbeques are located. It also allows the much needed natural light coming to rebound of the glass and hi-gloss surfaces, creating a sense of extra light and space. By using these aspects it has turned the space into a fully functional and practical kitchen. A good working relationship and constant communication with the client is what was needed to enable this project to be successful. Photo Credit: Kevin David

This beautiful kitchen remodel includes sable stained cabinets, paired with white quartz and brushed nickel pulls and knobs. The backsplash is a glossy 4x16 tile set staggered. The sink is an unequal, quartz sink, with stainless steel appliances. The island has a built-in microwave and added deep drawers and some book shelves for more space. Moving to the floor that ties the whole kitchen together is waterproof, wood-look laminate flooring.
