“I had the good fortune to use the services of Tom more than once. First for a grand old Victorian house, Talandoon, in Hawthorn, and then for my present abode, a chalet-type wooden house in Hawthorn again which I have been renovating on and off for 6-7 years. I found Tom always ready and teeming with good ideas, unfailingly patient with my changes of heart, and especially adept at keeping the builders on the straight and narrow. “Creative, attentive, efficient, hard working, totally professional and focused on great creative outcomes, these young architects have been a delight to work with. From creative schemes to detailed plans to working with councils, statutory authorities, builders and tradesmen, they couple a youthful innovative approach with a practical hands on attention to building, construction, planning , timelines and budgets which gets the job done. They are conscious of budget and value and have over- delivered at every step of the client architect relationship and Project. Young minds and old heads. We would work with them again in a heartbeat. And I would unhesitatingly recommend them to anyone.”
Ande Bunbury Architects
Home Additions Services in Lauriston, Victoria
Average rating: 5 out of 5 stars2 November 2016
“I photographed the Colour House for Ande in 2014. The joy her clients felt at the remodelling of their house was evident, particularly the incorporation of original, colourful elements in the design, hence the project's name. Ande included green principles in the project, converting an old inner city house into an oasis of light, air and very liveable spaces, including a hidden roof deck where the clients "sleep out" on hot nights. Ande is a thoughtful and inventive architect and a fun client to work with.”
Enduring Domain Architecture
Home Additions Services in Lauriston, Victoria
Average rating: 5 out of 5 stars8 June 2016
“Enduring Domain are project managers and designers of our new house, on a sloping country block with specific restrictions imposed by the water authorities. They have faced all challenges with imagination and humour and we are very much enjoying watching the project unfold. Having originally planned to design it ourselves, each time we see the clever design ideas included in this small structure we tell each other "that's why you need an architect". Highly recommended, especially for their concern for environmental sustainability and experience in :"green" building and design.”
Peter Vernon Architects

“Peter is an excellent architect. We have used him for two projects: a renovation of a large terrace in Surry Hills, Sydney (2002) and a renovation of a family house in Camberwell , Melbourne (2006). Peter listened carefully to our needs and created beautiful homes for us. He also managed both projects. He is experienced, creative and practical (brilliant bathrooms and kitchens). It is unusual to find a someone who has clever, ‘big picture ideas’ (eg. orientation of rooms, how to maximise light) while also being good with details (eg. a carefully positioned nightlight in our hallway, dimmers in the right parts of the house). He was respectful of our budgets. We highly recommend him.”
Rebecca Naughtin Architect

“Rebecca was the architect and site manager for a substantial renovation to our house in Moor Street Fitzroy. The house, which had been converted in a very haphazard fashion into 3 apartments 30-40 years previously had great bones but needed considerable and skilled renovation to return it to its former glory as a family home. The building had a long and chequered history, including as a boarding house where Weary Dunlop lived as a student. We were keen that we retained the unique character and feel of the house and made maximal use of its position, natural light and views over Fitzroy Town Hall. Rebecca was a joy and inspiration to work with from the outset. She was innovative, rigorous, and listened carefully to our suggestions, especially around environmental impact and overall feel of the property. She was incredibly resourceful in sourcing products and ideas, which made a huge difference to the final design. For example, the suspended cupboards in the kitchen – a real winner given the relatively small size for storage – came from a 1950s design magazine. She managed the project meticulously all the way through, and worked extremely well with the builders and other contractors, who clearly respected her professionalism and skill. This was not an easy project – the house had been renovated repeatedly over the years and the legacy meant no wall was straight and no two doors the same size. The final renovation is superb – understated but spectacular. We haven’t had a visitor who hasn’t been amazed by the house and renovation. I’ve lived in over 40 houses and flats in the last 30 years and this is undoubtedly the best house yet. This is partly due to the original structure but also because of the renovation; I’m sure a less skilled architect could easily have made a dog’s dinner of the project. Rebecca also clearly has an aptitude and commitment to teaching and I know that she is heavily engaged in community and voluntary work in Australia and overseas.”

“It was great working with Lisa on our deck/roof extension. She listened to our ideas and requirements and designed a great extension that's very sympathetic to the style of our home. Thanks Lisa!”
Ed Ewers Architecture

“We have used Ed for both of our renovations and have found him to be a great architect. For our first project we used Ed for both the design and the project management of a small renovation. We loved the design which dragged a 1970s monstrosity of a house (think lots of mission brown and wood panelling) right into the 21st Century. Tweaks that Ed made to layout just made the house 'work'. We were exceedingly happy with the result. Ed and his team worked tirelessly behind the scenes so that while we had the usual decisions to make, any of those problems that inevitably turn up on the site were solved before they hit our radar. Our second project was based in Sydney (see Ed's project titled 'Springfield' ) and although we spoke with some local architects we didn't get the same comfortable feeling as we had with Ed. Our second renovation was a major undertaking on a heritage listed house where there had been multiple renovations done in the past and little coherence. The floorplan had small spaces left over that had no practical use and the house was very tired. We extended but only by a small amount but again by rationalising the floorplan we have ended up with a much more usable space. The end result is a gorgeous home. This time I was the project manager but Ed and his team remained on call through-out for whenever my builder or I had any queries. What I love about Ed is that we have achieved a great balance between gorgeous design and practicality. The space looks fab but it is also easy to live in and we love that!”
