Should I paint the exposed beams in my living room?
Comments (42)the beams are the whole architectural focus in house of this style. I can understand people wanting to paint when the ceiling is low and flat as the dark timber can feel intrusive. once painted, the home's point of difference will be lost forever. maybe you should get a designer decorator out to your house, who has worked with style before - they will probably have some great suggestions for other ways to capture more light, through light furniture, reflective surfaces, window treatments, different lighting and mirrors. skylights do make a world of difference too🌞...See MoreHow can I tie my living and dining room together?
Comments (28)bigreader has had some excellent tips. The rug you've chosen is lovely, but you definitely need a bigger size. A larger rectangle size might have more underneath the couch. You can check out online options. The blue is fantastic, once you have that repeated around both areas your room will have much better flow. One other thing to think about when you are ready to change your lounge is to get something with a lower back (same with dining chair), these help a more visual flow than high back chairs....See MoreI Need help please for my living room.

Or at least a 1600 x 2300. Rugs are personal things. But with the beautiful deep wood furniture that you have, I would bring some similar tones in with the rug. But with a splash of colour to match your new lounges....See MoreCan I lay eucastic look tiles in my living room?
Comments (22)I am assuming , when you say living area , you have a separate dining area ? This will be mainly couches and similar seating ? I love the wooden floor , and the tiles in the 2 pictures Dreamer posted , although here's the funny thing -- enlarge the pics , and they look ( IMO ) busy but also 'cold' . Why I asked about dining is that I would personally carpet that area in a neutral cream or wheat , as it feels nice but also feels warmer , and then double down with a rug similar to Dreamers tiles -- a light 'faded' blue on a neutral background ) so it isn't too much ( a full carpet in that tone may do ) . Furniture , buffet , coffee table etc in complimentary tones would give the room a really warm and inviting look , whereas I always feel tiles look colder and better suited to dining/kitchen/bath/laundry . But I'm weird . . . . . . . . ....See Morenasz
