How do I make a really UGLY house livable?
Comments (5)Your furniture will already improve the space. Lounge.. Face your lounge towards fire place. Dark textured rug. Make sure the rug sits just under the couch. Colourful textured cushions. Replace mirror with large clock. Lowline TV cabinet in corner. Bookcase, get MDF cut to fit in the back of each shelf. Either paint or wallpaper. I notice there is blinds in the sun room, so remove the curtains. Then add large colourful artwork. Dining...much longer wall cabinet, large artwork, replace chandelier for a dome pendant....See MoreWhat do you think of my floor plan for my new home?
Comments (73)This floor plan has a single garage, with bedrooms grouped together at the front of the house, the Music Room has been moved to the rear away from the bedrooms as it would make too much noise for those sleeping. It can now be opened up to the family kitchen dining, courtyard and Alfresco and can be used as a play room(/ guest room) giving children great indoor out door play area in view of parents. There's a study with a similar view. A powder room closer to the rear of the house for easy access, The main bathroom is done Japanese style. The master suite has the WIR between the bed and the ensuite, no noise etc when in use to disturb anyone. I have made the passage way extra wide and more like a room which has a linen cupboard, you could certainly make this narrower and add to the bedrooms if you wished, This comes to 204.5 sq m. cheers...See MoreHow to Make A Home Feel Like A 5-Star Hotel

The bedroom already had that nice blue picture , and the plantation blinds . What was changed ? They took out the grey pillowslips , and colour co-ordinated it . Yes , read that again -- they took out the grey . And it looks better IMO . The stairs conversely -- they added grey textured wallpaper or maybe it is panelling . I don't like the style of light used anyway , but IMO by going black and gold against grey emphasises that difference , and similarly the cart in the same black and gold , with grey carpet just doubles down . Maybe it's my bizarre taste , but I don't like grey and gold mixed -- black and grey and silver works but is bland ; black and gold ( without silver ) is generally classy . Without knowing the colours in the surrounding rooms , apart from probably blue in the one bedroom , it's difficult to say , but if it was 'just' those stairs on their own , I'd change the light obviously ( probably something with a modern look and in mainly black , a bit of chrome ? ) , the textured walls on charcoal as it looks modern , but with a colourful abstract picture to add colour , and if keeping the grey carpet , I'd have chrome on the cart , and possibly a bit of red or orange -- you see that white vase , imagine that in red for instance . See , we are all different , you may love what they've done , I don't . A couple of other commenters love it , a couple don't . I like colour in my life ( around a theme generally ) -- arrest me !...See MoreHow do I make this bedroom cosy?
Comments (21)Ok so French doors are on the street frontage. In that case I would leave bed where it is, but I would add a wide high curtain rod above the window behind to form a backdrop for the bed with shears always closed, creating illusion the window is wider and allowing the bed to be further from fireplace, centred between front of house and fireplace. Matching sets of curtains on both windows to the floor....See MoreMiranda S
