Help my lounge room is a big beige blank canvas!
Comments (5)Hi Juliahocking - thanks for the ideas! Sorry I saw your comments on the weekend and then forgot to come back and update after I had moved the furniture around. I like the idea of moving the sofa and creating two separate spaces within the room. The problem is that the section of the room with the blank wall doesn't have a tv point so would need to get that installed. I moved one of the couches there to face the wall and it felt a little bit cramped, and the other section of the room seemed to have a lot of space to fill without the second couch. Is this what you meant? I found the photos from the real estate listing to show the previous owners set up, they might give a better indication of the space? We moved the TV to the corner because we didn't like it blocking the window, but i don't think the corner is ideal either. Do you think it would work to have a couple of chairs in the "dining" section of the room, or would that be strange to be facing to the back of the couch? Would love any ideas to make the windows prettier. I love the outlook but the brown screens and frames are not very attractive! Timandra Design and Landscaping - thanks! Will start my search for some large pieces of art and colourful cushions. Is it that rug you don't like, or just the idea of a rug in general in this room? I wasn't sure about a rug on top of carpet but thought it could be a good way to break up the space and add some colour. I am planning to return that rug on the weekend and continue my search! I agree I love the green outlook and it is really nice to lie on the couch and look out (while wondering how to set up the room!) :)...See MoreWhat do you think of my home makeover?
Comments (15)Shazia you're a brave woman indeed to invite "all opinions" and fortunate that houzzers tend to be helpful not hurtful. Your opinion is ultimately what counts of course. Whilst difficult to judge without seeing the room in it's entirety this is what I'd try if it were my home. I question the location of the dining area and wonder if you've tried or considered moving it nearer the kitchen? I'd move the elaborate mirror to end wall on it's own where the a/c - security box are (they may need to be moved across a bit, I've done it, it's easy), with the dining suite there. The mirror won't fight with the Chesterfields then and would work well with the dining suite. I'd move the dark corner bookcase next to the stairwell, it looks like it would fit and make the room less busy. Bring the wall unit up to it moving the TV unit down where I'm assuming the wall unit ended before. Then you could arrange your couches into an L with space enought to walk between window and couch facing the kitchen and space to walk behind the other couch facing the TV to walk in and out of the sliding door creating a cosy nook. The cow rug would work a treat. I'd place the Moroccan table with the Tiffany lamp in the corner void created where the couches meet. It would create defined areas whilst still looking open. That's my taste of course and know that my ideas usually takes hours, days, weeks of moving and shoving things around until it feels right. If it feels right it is right Shazia. Enjoy.....See MoreWhat do you think of my floor plan for my new home?
Comments (73)This floor plan has a single garage, with bedrooms grouped together at the front of the house, the Music Room has been moved to the rear away from the bedrooms as it would make too much noise for those sleeping. It can now be opened up to the family kitchen dining, courtyard and Alfresco and can be used as a play room(/ guest room) giving children great indoor out door play area in view of parents. There's a study with a similar view. A powder room closer to the rear of the house for easy access, The main bathroom is done Japanese style. The master suite has the WIR between the bed and the ensuite, no noise etc when in use to disturb anyone. I have made the passage way extra wide and more like a room which has a linen cupboard, you could certainly make this narrower and add to the bedrooms if you wished, This comes to 204.5 sq m. cheers...See MoreWhat colour curtain will look good in my lounge room.
Comments (10)Dear Mary, a track on the ceiling with S-fold heading would look good in this room. It would be terrific as a sheer, but remember that at night people can see in when the light is on - during the day, it will be private. As KK1000 said, a blind in the reveal will make the area private when required, or have lining on a separate track. The fabric doesn't need to be plain, it can include design in the colours you already have in the furniture, rugs or artwork. There are fabulous coarsely woven sheers at the moment and a few samples follow: Most curtains at the moment are falling from the ceiling, as it makes the room seem larger and the S-fold looks good from the outside, rather than gathers - just look about in the meantime, you will see what I mean. Pelmets are making a come-back, but might look like an apology with your leather furniture, unless they are relatively straight and fit up to the cornice....See Moreblee
