Comments (7)You have done a great job so far! A small suggestion, but a dark throw across the bottom of the bed before the seat. Like mohair to give another texture. I would avoid any more of a Baroque feel, it could just slip into looking over done. Like the sheer curtain idea, but maybe have a chintz look side curtain too (non functional, to again create depth). Maybe nothing behind the bed, but soft image on the other wall next to the door, something like a foggy landscape, with a lone tree, so your looking into the image, avoid too ornate a frame, maybe a dark frame so in contrast to the mirror. Replace laundry basket with a softer rattan, limed look. The wallpaper idea is worth considering but tone on tone. Also the current bedside lights are taking up too much room and are the wrong colour shade. I would replace the bedside lights with sconces, raising them will lighten the area, giving some space to the room and beside the bed too. Small shades, in a soft feminine grey chintz (similar to doona) or do the other way - go darker, with dark brass metal work, maybe even some crystals, in a smokey glass, just a touch, might be bead work. Therefore maybe changing the chandelier to dark with smokey glass, I would presume it would draw the eye to it as a focal point. I do love your dark candles. Comments (35)I think you need to soften the look and colour of the bed by mixing white and cream bed linen maybe with a little soft grey accents. I would go for a variety of textures in the textile as apposed to any outrageous colour and layer the look with throws and cushions. Comments (17)What a gorgeous picture window, Karina. It appears this wall is curved and is quite a feature. If you require storage, I would consider having a custom shelving unit designed and built to follow the curve of the wall. Apart from that, blinds get my vote for this particular window, individually set into reveals as Piega suggested. And if you don’t plan to use space under winode for furniture or storage, sheers in front of blinds would look great (consider dark sheer fabric too). Full length drapes are far better looking than short ones, plus they provide thermal benefit. You might consider these for bedrooms, but double blinds with blockout would also work well. I think blinds have come a long way and there are so many gorgeous fabrics and colours to choose. Comments (17)Actually, your style isn't really very scandi in my opinion. It's industrial and rustic. I'd match recycled and chunky timbers with the concrete, a timber with rich reds. There is a company near me that makes plywood panels with recycled wood veneer attached. They're too far for you but might give you some ideas for a feature wall. I'd start with a few tins of paint and some colour actually. you'd be surprised what that can do! I'm fixing, well technically my second home but with our first we figured fairly quick it wasn't a forever home and didn't do anything personal with it. So this is our first "home" if not our first house. i getya! I know everyone seems to love white walls, but after years of bland rentals the first thing I wanted to do was paint colours all over the walls! Anything but white! Paint is cheap and a safe place to start testing your design flair. Go and paint a bunch of sample tins onto the walls and don't stress too much about the perfect look. start with what you like and find what suits that. A colour that makes you smile when you see it. I've paid about $10 a sample tin. like others said, don't do anything with the carpets yet, you can throw a rug over it if its too boring and it will look fine. There are so many things that I first thought I needed to completely change, then as I painted and freshened and tidied up I realised were not needed a huge reno. Our house was a bit of a wreck though, not a nice new apartment so things just literally needed cleaning and fixing. Put up some pictures, art, photos you like too. Honestly, I know everyone's being funny about getting a girlfriend and getting her to decorate, but actually I think it's great you've got your own taste and want to decorate. I think anyone you bring home would love seeing more of your personality around the place. Check out some garage sales and buyswap sell and auctions for rustic timber pieces for your home. 9 years agolast modified: 9 years agoThe pillow photo on right doesn't have darker animal print pillows. I think its stripes might be too dark? Seems a nice contrast with a muted blue paint....[and to me the headboard and flooring have more unity.]
For reference, flatter headboard and pictures, also simple bench and even mixed with stripes....

9 years agoWithout reading all the posts, I happen to think that art truly wakes up a room. So, yes, I would go for a large piece above the bed and two long rectangular pieces above your night stands.
As far as the rug, you could go with one that has a few colors and patterns without being too loud. A dark Orange goes very nicely with teal as well. I would most definently bring in patterns and other colors with pillows. All you need is two pillows at the most that are teal. Then have a few that are patterned in different colors.
The couch looks a bit too large in front of the bed, in my opinion. I am wondering if you can place it across on the other side, or on an angle. I think a larger headboard and one that will make a statement. Especially if you are keeping the couch in front.
I do like the look of a bench in front of a bed.
More pictures would be wonderful.

At this late stage I thought I might mention that the lamps seen in the ref pic would look nice on the night tables as thy have more heft than those presently in place.

8 years agofunny you should ask. Originally the room I decorated was to get my house ready for sale knowing I was taking my furnitue with me. Well I have moved and the furniture looks much different in the room, too sparce. The rug is now too small. Need aome ideas how to fix it up a bit. Any ideas how to make it look less sparse?

8 years agosorry heres a few more pics. The colour of the walks is painted by the pre ious owners. My artwork just blends in. I need either a new colour or a colour for behind the bed. I was also wondering about something for anove the bed to fill in that space.

8 years agoHi Alisa - looks great, but you're right, the room is too big for this particular layout, you just need to move things around and add a couple of pieces and it will be back to WOW!
Instead of centering the bed etc. in the middle of the room, shift it to the left so that your night table is about 3-4" from the wall, then the bed (1 ft. from table). This would leave you with a gorgeous area along those beautiful windows to place a chaise longue or a cozy built in bench for reading (and extra storage). You could even use your current chair, paired with a round side table and another cozy side chair - perfect spot for coffee and a small breakfast.
Your rug will automatically be in scale once it's moved under the bed and bench on the left side of the room.
OR if you prefer, move everything toward the window side and create a cozy reading nook with bookshelves and your chair on the left wall. Also, a long white console table would look fabulous along either wall.
About the color - it does blend, but it also looks awesome with the turquoise accents. You certainly can leave that color up and use something else on the back wall. (If you want the wall to recede (appear further away) you use a darker color - if you want the wall to appear closer (advance) you would use a lighter color. If I were you, I'd find out what the color is and go a couple of shades lighter, unless you don't like the color - it's hard to tell over the monitor. Do you like the wall color with your furniture?
You could also cover it with a white textured paper. (see pic). This wallpaper can also be painted any color you want. There are many designs to choose from - google: paintable textured wallpaper.
Also, I really don't think you need anything over the bed with the paintings and the lamps, the ornamental feel of the headboard is enough. If you lower your pictures so they are about 3" from the top of the tables, you'll find they connect better with the table and the bed and, the space above the bed won't be so obvious.
Here are a couple of layout examples - you'll notice the bed etc. is shifted to one side, leaving you room to do great things on the other side. (Chaise shown in pic 3 is a bit much, but I was trying to show how nice a chaise can look by the windows).

8 years agoThe bed does not need to be at the center of the wall - paint a frame behind the bed. Add some cheer curtains to make it cozy and som chairs or a sofa by the window. Play around with som sequenze pillows.
