HELP !! How do I furnish this Lounge Room
Comments (4)My two cents worth: consider getting a corner sofa. Search Houzz for corner sofa photos - they can look good from all angles and away from walls/window. Perhaps corner sofa could face both the view out the east-facing window and towards the long 3.2metre wall. Then you could install a full height wall of storage (with TV) on this wall - bookshelves, display etc. Other ideas: something like this if you prefer sofa against the wall Or if you want to leave TV as is, perhaps an unusual shaped sofa?...See MoreHelp, our lounge/dining room is just not working.
Comments (10)I'd consider putting the corner sofa and TV stand in the dining room, moving the stand-alone chair and footstool and tall lamp near the stove as a "reading nook" and placing the dining table in the living room, leaving enough for a walkway from the entry to the current dining / possible living room. In terms of the actual furniture, everything other than the colour of the dining chair fabric looks pretty good. I would start by decluttering and removing anything that isn't functional or which you don't find aesthetically pleasing. I'd personally remove the mirror in the bar as I don't think it gels very well, the tiny framed art near the stove, the art on the wall near the TV as it's too small and hung too closely and the drum kit (unless the drum kit is used on a daily basis). I really like the Marimekko print and, IF you like it, then I would use it as inspiration for adding colour to each of the rooms, possibly even a "feature" wall using the bright blue from the print (although I'm not a huge fan of feature walls). A few minor changes may also help, like replacing the blown bulb in the wall sconce, storing the ironing board somewhere else and taking down the "hanging" glasses in the bar area as they're visual clutter right at eye line height....See MoreHow do I furnish my new lounge room?
Comments (31)Hi Roz, Looks like you have a beautiful space with lots of light, great idea to go with a tropical theme and the bar will be a fantastic touch. If you want something a little more casual, have you considered adding a [drinks trolley/ bar cart[(https://www.houzz.com.au/magazine/bar-trolleys-let-the-good-times-roll-stsetivw-vs~56579761) instead of a built-in bar? Also, there are some great ideas in [this story[(https://www.houzz.com.au/magazine/get-the-look-caribbean-style-with-a-twist-stsetivw-vs~76280038) that might help you with furniture and decor. As a lot of other people have said, natural fibres are going to be your best friends, as are lots of [beautiful houseplants[(https://www.houzz.com.au/magazine/our-10-hottest-indoor-plants-stsetivw-vs~27299305) to add lushness and freshness to the space, perfect with all of those windows. Hope this helps, and can't wait to see the finished product! Deirdre...See MoreHow do we insulate our timber kitchen floor?
Comments (4)underfloor heating can be installed under some new floating floors and fitted carpets but you'd need to contact the manufacturers of the flooring and heaters to confirm precise conditions to suit your existing timber floor but we have an electric blanket style floor heater that slips underneath an area rug and is excellent for keeping feet warm under a table or desk and just plugs into a wall outlet ...we're very happy with our Coldbuster heaters that can be ordered on line in various sizes but first try some large area rugs for instant insulation that can be removed in hot weather...See Morehaephestus
