Carport/outdoor area design advice and external Windows and doors
Comments (3)For the car port I would keep it simple and open. Use a skillion colorbond roof attached to the house and timber support posts. Do you want to continue with the Tuscan theme? If so I think either go a whitish colour or a darker charcoal colour for the windows and doors. If you intend to paint the exterior walls then you open a whole other world! The front fence would look amazing out of sandstone if that is in your budget, otherwise what about a stackable stone finish which you could glue into a Hebel wall?...See MoreExternal cladding for new extension
Comments (23)Hi Katrine, The renovation went really well - thanks! It's been finished for more than a year now - hard to believe!! I could only find one pic of the cladding that was easy for me to upload - here it is. We've been really happy with the FC cladding and how it looks. We replaced all the existing exterior weatherboards (which ran on an angle parallel to the roof) with the same Duragroove FC cladding that we covered the new extension in. Our builders said it is very easy to work with and it certainly went up very quickly. Their only comment was that you can end up with a fair bit of wastage as it often gets damaged in transit. The supplier they used said this is pretty common, however, and so they actually allow for it and oversupply somewhat to allow a proportion of damaged sheets - sorry I can't quantify this aspect for you. The cladding was very easy and quick to paint and we're very happy with how it has come up. If you're interested in details, it's painted in a new Colourbond colour called Gully. The darker trim (fascias, gutters, downpipes etc) is Woodland Grey. Good luck with your decision making. If you'd like more photos, let me know and I'll try to take and upload a few more. Cheers, Kate...See MoreReplace external cladding - DIY?
Comments (2)i'd want to know what's caused the damage, lack of maintenance, poor choice of original material or a more serious issue? A roof leak is such an important problem that i'd invest in advice from a professional (roofer, builder, carpenter and/or plumber) and ask them to check the whole roof inside and out including sarking and insulation, cladding, eaves, fascias, flashing and all the gutters and downpipes...unfortunately ignored problems will only become worse and create bigger issues..good luck with it...See Morehelp- external cladding or blue board ? or some other suggestions?
Comments (5)I second James Hardie Axon cladding as it has a vertical groove that echoes the original vertical weatherboard. Or you could get some weatherboard custom milled to match the existing and just patch the damage without doing the whole house. In the photo below I specified the Axon sheet which was then painted lime yellow. Also be aware that some builders will suggest materials that will make their lives easier rather than what actually looks good and will be durable and long-lasting.
